1) Why should we do anything for free??? :no no
2) its NOT free to do for RM i.e. setting it up printing the cards, the callers office having to walk back to get them etc etc
3) We aint a charity and I want a pay rise this year thankyou very much!

Another move designed to ensure public loathing of RM & therefore support for privatisation

1) We don't do it for free...the recipient doesn't pay for the service...the sender does...now RM want both ends to pay...piss take and at £210...double piss take.
2) You can write as many etc,etc as you like the total cost to the business is....1 card and me walking up to the callers with it....do you think that's more than the cost of delivery?
3) No we aren't a charity, that's why we charge the sender...but we are supposed to be a service...your pay rise will be irrelevant if we piss enough business customers off...how much do the dole pay now?
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

there is a firm that collects it mail at 7am, every morning. so basically it is picking up yesterdays mail. they do this because when we deliever it they dont gbet it until 10 - 10.30 am. they complained to us saying they must have it no later than 8. we told them to bollocks and take out a timed service. they said no ok you deliever it. we deliever and after one day they decided to pick up again. thing is, its alwasy yesterdays mail as after 7am thats when 95 percent of there mail is comign in. stupid arseholes.

This article was in the Daily Mail...

I am surprised that a postman fails to see the logic behind charging customers for special services.

The customer does not have to pay anything as long as they are ready to wait (like the rest of us) for the mail, whenever it arrives.

When I have sorted a customers mail, then the delivery is a doddle. But for me to have to take the mail to one side and then to the office, or have office (PHG) come up to collect is providing a 'special service'. The PHG often has to leave his post with customers waiting to come and pick up the mail.

RM is longer just simply a service - it is a business. And most, if not all, business dont do things for free on top of not covering thier cost. The cost of postage does not cover the Universal service or even basic service provided.

I like it when people talk about wanting RM privatised, as if the private company will not hike up the cost of every service currently provided for next to nothing.

"When I have sorted a customers mail, then the delivery is a doddle." - yes, finish sorting, have a coffee if it's not a busy day, and I feel as if it's nearly time to go home. I just don't know how they can cope working in a Mail centre.

Yes, we have one that collects at 9am and even then we haven't always finished sorting.

You know, I saw something, somewhere -- maybe last year, where you'd have something like this, where you'd basically step into it. Doing so would not only do the walking for you but, it would also carry the load for you, too.

I'd really like to get one of those contraptions, if only to see how practical they could be. Erm, not for the job we do, but as a means to move equipment from location to location. Blimey, if RM were to outfit us with anything like this our balls would ground into dust. :chuckle

I'm with you on both counts. I don't know which c*** it was to blame for the original loss of the 2 deliveries, but it was either that fat, lay-ton-stone or that other little sh*t (er, not you Little s**t), Adman Crazier.

And as for being too knackered to do anything but sleep, I've had no time for anything but sleep... and too much work, of course. :evil/mad

There is, though, a lot of talk about who should pay for what...

On the one hand it may seem unfair for a service to actually charge a business to collect its own mail. Personally, I feel this paid for service should only be applied to business, mostly because they are the ones always vying for our blood. If they can't live with the time that it is delivered because RM are so sh*t, then it's not exactly our fault, and those businesses should pay for the privilege of collecting said mail for themselves. I know that probably sounds like a load of bollix, but it's not us (posties) who see ourselves as delivering something in the shape of a business, but more of a service.

We are (or were) a public (not business) service being constantly metamorphosed into something that RM has no knowledge of successfully becoming. Yet RM are 'prepping' us posties for a business-like purpose. At every turn, all these little businesses wants is for us to disappear and to be privatised so that their business can work in the conceptual, arena-like business of their dreams.

...They have no bloody idea what they're fugging letting themselves in for. They've always wanted to shaft us, and now they're being shafted by the very notions that drove them to wanting the same thing to happen to us. It just ain't going to go the way they have now obviously, and mistakenly first perceived.
We posties do things differently, but we still get shot at!

Our (other) men and women deserve a little more... http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/

To be honest, I'm with Indy.
For the last few years we've been fighting against all the things that have made the service what it is now, and what thanks do we get? none, as for some reason it's all our fault!
How loud must we shout before the public realise what privatiation will mean for the service,
For me the time has come for us the employees to look after our own interests, after 40,000 job losses the public has shown they don't give a f**k about us, we're the biggest obstacle to privatisation which is going to happen eventually, and it's time for us to negotiate a deal that benefits our job security and is in our interest.

Could it be that some of the Freebies we provide like when buisinesses close for the summer, like when schools & colleagues close for certain holidays that we are actually going to charge them??? If so about bloody time, all these things and more we give away, you know the one's we all do but realistically why should we?? I am old fashioned enough to think we still provide a service BUT that's not the road that the Buisiness want to go down, more fool them but when all's done and dusted if we provide the service then we should get paid for it, ..... open the torent of abuse if you must but let it be constructive :wave :wave

this is true. manager (DOM)team brief
manager of delivery office every week since team briefs started.
The customer is king we have to perform and deliver on time every time no excuses
targets will be met at all costs (without incurring cost at all) so you had better deliver or else.
now question one what does the customer want?
In harmony the whole team replies an early morning delivery each and every day.
manager replies
that's out of the question they get one delivery per day at whatever time it arrives (generally P.M)
now then team how can you improve this great service to help the business be the best in the WORLD.
team stunned silence.
if only management would listen and not just hear, then maybe the customer might get what they want and pay for
and then maybe they just might use other postal services that we provide at extra cost therefore boosting revenue and profitability
Has MOYA good listening skills i wonder.

We do or rather we should, and if the schools don't take it up the letter of RM law says we have to kill the mail off.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

We should be charging for forwarding and returning mail also. Why do we have to return competitors mail, for example, for nothing. Returned bulk mail should either be destroyed or charge, perhaps at a lower rate. The amount of work on returned mail is even more than a clean letter going through the (so-called) modern machines.

This is supposed to be a business - no other business out there will give so much for free and so cheap too.

Customers want to moan about our professionalism and our (perceived) laziness but they dont want to pay market rate for the services we provide - f-them!

Another thing we should charge for is the repair of things that have not been packed properly, like when too much stuff is jammed into a jiffy bag, or thin brown paper is used for something heavy.
