Why instead of having an TUC accreditation course often given by someone who has never done a revision in his life in a delivery office can we not have training on the IWT , training on geo route , training on delivery methods , training on how to get the model week , how to plot walks and loops. This is what we need to build to help local reps. This training needs to be given by people who know about these things instead of someone who has read a brief.
Last year the union had 2000 courses but some people went on 3 or 4 courses , some are doing degrees and whilst I support that , the priority must first and foremost be to train local reps in the workplace as most cant or dont want to travel to a place in Oxfordshire or in Bournemouth.
So the priority should be training local reps first on the skills they need to represent their members in the workplace on revisions.
Fair play I agree with that 100%

So do i Teebs...It's becoming a habit...i may need therapy.
What about setting up a system, similar to the one used by The Open University?
In other words: Instead of having all the problems with getting release time. Just do them as correspondance courses, with a few lectures, if neccessary. Thus reducing, or possibly illiminating the need for release. It'd hardly be a good situation for the Reps taking the courses, because they already do so much in their own time. But surely, it's better than being prevented from taking the courses at all, wouldn't it?
Don't knock Insanity
it's just another outlook on Reality!

How would that still be a union, and why would i won't to pay subs to that??
It sounds like the NUS.
Just want to say to this guy called dingo, I defintley agree with you there to An extent , but if the union selected the genuine people to train in the first place I really don't think these positions would be open to abuse, and they would genuinley be able to help their office members rather than non, which ive seen before, then I think the union would have more loyal members and a stronger workforce. Unfortunatley my one seems to disappear a lot , and when you do ask basic questions about eg tabletop revisions he swallows a dictionary, and therefore neither the manager nor the rep are any help to the member, because they are always too busy trying to stick a nail in each others coffin rather than pysically improve an impossible work load.(sorry 2 years as a part timer unfortunately)
How difficult would it be for the Union to modernise and cut costs at the same time by providing this important training and information via the internet, interactive media and video conferencing etc?
Oh definatley, I could agree with that, as our manager spends about an hour on the phone every morning to his manager for his live update.?? Does this mean he is a incapable person?? Its seems to be either the rep tells him what he should be doing or his manager!! From the industry I came from you either made a decision or you didn't. Fortunatley no middle men which would've been seen as a waste of money! ! There you go, a nice saving, I mean its not rocket science putting bits of paper through a door. Is it?
