Re: Favouritism in our office
i have always found 'favouritism' to be far too tame a word at Royal Mail. Nepotism is a far more accurate word!

Come on Jack. Not all Reps are on the make.jack straw wrote:Sounds par for the course to me. Favourtism is rife in all offices. All the reps and their mates sticking together and taking the easy jobs in the re-sign. I know you'll say 'there are no easy jobs, all the jobs are equal'. This is bollox. Every single rep and all his cronies have it easy. THIS IS A FACT. They are as bad as the managers and their mates as in this case. Think about it you lot!moyas slave wrote:so a bank manager has taken a job as a postie?
you are sure he is not the regional manager or something?
doesnt quite add up for me.
The vast majority work their nuts off for their members.
Sadly it seems you have seen the other side of the coin. and there is no doubt there are some lazy bas.ards in rep positions, but you shouldn't
tar all reps with the same brush.

Good Luck John B
Only in Royal Mail could this crap be allowed to Prosper. Especially where some offices are having to fight for jobs!
I'd have thought the best plan of attack would just be to point out to the higher ups how much extra MONEY it's costing them. That seems to be the only thing they care about.

John,
I think significant is the fact that is is at an SPDO, one of those tiny establishments few of us on here have experience of, and where a visit from the DOM is something of an annual event, work time learning sessions never occur, everyone is kept in the dark and the office is supervised, rather than managed, by a Sub-Postmaster who may be perfectly competant at selling stamps and car tax but have absolutely no idea of man management such that he leaves everyone to get on with it as they see fit to the total disregard of fairness or what should be happening. Does this sound familiar and, incidently, how many work at your SPDO ?

Now . . . explain to me how that description differs from "proper" managers! I'm going to stick my neck out and say it's the stamps and car tax bit - I wouldn't fancy any of them to be able to get the job done.Lounge Lizard wrote:by a Sub-Postmaster who may be perfectly competant at selling stamps and car tax but have absolutely no idea of man management

Re: Favouritism in our office
My experience of DOMs, or 'proper managers' as you call them, is that although they can have many failings they do appear to have had some training and some idea of what should be achieved, whereas a Sub-Postmaster allegedly subervising an SPDO might just not interfere leaving everyone just to do whatever they like, although I should hasten to add that that will not always be the case.taurus88 wrote:Now . . . explain to me how that description differs from "proper" managers! It used to be exactly like that, until the postmaster retired and closed up shop, forcing RM to find new premises and bring in a ex manager as our supervisor.Lounge Lizard wrote:John,

Our supervisor is a grade A cock and has the worst attitude I have ever seen in a human being.
The trouble is, the majority of the posties in our office bend over and take it for England, if he says jump, they jump.
Between the supervisor and the lazy git, I will have my work cut out attempting to make any changes for the good of the office.
