The aggregate system is fair , and you can decide to balance it over 6 weeks. Now the allocation of overtime has always been the property of the CWU. Most offices in London including the mail centres have agreed overtime rules which have been endorsed by the office membership. Once the overtime has been agreed then either the rep, or the book holder gives the overtime out in line with the office rules.

It is not the managers role to give out the overtime , certainly it has to be agreed overtime but the allocation of the overtime should always be given out in line with agreed rules so everyone has a fair opportunity to do overtime.

Thanks folks, the aggregate systems seems a good idea.

Who is right though, on group are saying overtime allocation is a management task and the other is saying its a CWU task.

I'm not bothered either way, the idea is we set up a system which anyone can use, I am part time so the management or an other needs to be able to use it anyway.

Both are right - it should be a management task, it certainly is outside of RM. However, if you want a fair and transparent method its always best to go through the Union as everyone should be able to vote on proposed methods.
