Got told the same in the DN area as we were being sent home. Rep said there was an agreement between RF & CWU. Expecting to get shafted again as usual on this.

These area reps need to contact CWU HQ ad ask for an immediate update on this as Royal Mail managers will always take full advantage of any misinformed or naive union rep.

These AREA reps should frigging well know the score unless.....................

It has always been RM policy to try to abate pay for this kind of thing but we have always used the IR framework to fight it.
Talk of an agreement is bollocks but WTF are these reps up to?

I asked if the managers owe back time, I was ignored by them.

All Employees
Employees unable to get to their place of work should report to the nearest Royal Mail premises within either three miles (4.8km) – or two miles (3.2km) of their homes or to which public transport is available, where members of their grade are most likely to be employed.

Some staff will still be unable to attend alternative work location and they should contact their Line Manager to explain the situation. On return to work the Line Manager will discuss with them how the absence is to be treated. Each case will be treated on it's merits and in recognition of employees to attend for work in adverse circumstances.

Practical options open to managers include:

Take one day annual leave
Take the day off and make up the time during the following week

Where individuals are unable to attend for work over several days because of the conditions, advice should be sought from Employment Policy Managers on how the absences should be treated.

So we WILL have to bank hours or we will not? Does this apply if you TURNED UP and was TURNED AWAY? Does this apply if you ring up and told NOT to come in?

Clarification is needed. Is this an official agreement?

In the statement made by Dave Ward this part is clearly directed at these misinformed union reps:

"We have had further reports that some Managers are attempting to have our members take annual leave, make good the time, or even in some cases Special Leave 'C' (unpaid) where they could not attend work through no fault of their own. Once again, our representatives should be clear that this has not been agreed with the Postal Department at CWU HQ."

Royal Mail managers are either just as ignorant of this fact or they are taking full advantage of naive or easily coerced union reps.
Either way we have this statement to support us and defend our position against these managers.

Show this statement in full to your union reps. If your union rep isn't representing you then go over his head.
I will be taking a copy of this statement into work tomorrow and I suggest that everyone else does the same.

But has this been superseded with the way backwards agreement, umm way forward agreement.

Managers (and I use that term loosely) will say it's from Jan and does not apply any longer! Wow, I can even second guess the lowlifes now.

Since the publication of LtB 95/2009, the Postal Department has received a number of enquiries.

It appears that in some areas management are attempting to introduce unagreed adjustments to hours or forcing individuals to take unpaid or annual leave when they were unable to attend work due to the weather conditions. Some managers are claiming to justify this approach by quoting from a document entitled “Severe Weather Operating Manual for use in Royal Mail”. This is an unagreed management document. Furthermore there is no provision within the Pay and Modernisation Agreement for clawback of hours as a result of what is tantamount to an ‘act of God’.

Each individual case should be looked at according to its merits and the local weather conditions. Any problems should be taken through the Industrial Relations Framework. During this time the status quo should remain.

At our delivery office tomorrow we have been told there are no deliveries to be made as no mail will have come in from the mail centre but we still have to show we are willing and go in and then we will be paid. At a time when the police are saying only drive if really necessary what is the point in going in to an empty office knowing you are have nothing to sort and nothing to take out on delivery so then be sent home we are making an unsafe and unescessary journey putting ourselves and other road users at a greater risk of an accident by being on the road for no reason

With all the "owing hours" talk by managers and decent snow hitting Hampshire overnight, I'm glad I'm on a week's annual leave, but I am thinking about my fellow comrades and their safety plus their misinforming managers...

On 23rd December last year, the ground was covered in a horrendousy slippy icesheet, people were walking faster than cars! Depot car park was closed, with posties manning the gate. "Oweing hours" was never talked about, we were simply requested to do indoor work like deads and surcharges for two days. We then agreed to take out parts of our walks where we felt it would be safe to do so, building back up to full delivery by "day 6" following that bizarre freezing, apparently the first time I depot did not deliver in almost 10 years...

Took the info found on here into work today. Deliveries cancelled yet again, started on about clawing back hours. Showed them the info, massive flap. Result, no banking of hours. So dont believe what they say. To all who posted the info, thank you & well done.

Noticed a lot of that. But credit where it is due. Even passed the info onto processing as they were being shafted as well. Made a lot of difference to a lot of people. We all have to stick together in this climate. Work & weather!

Was sent home at 10am today after being told about 0830 that all deliveries except driving duties were cancelled because of the snow.
After the snow we had in Jan/Feb this year we were told you can go out ( if you want to ). But this time no one was to go out. The thing is the snow we've had today is nowhere near as bad as earlier in the year. We've also been told no deliveries Friday either, Ice will be the problem, so huge backlog awaits.

Can they claw back the hours, having sent us home early, with Xmas pressure (if there is such a thing anymore) on the horizon I smell a rat.
I can just hear them now....work past your finish time to clear it because we let you off early last week etc.
