I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been. My BFF Clash The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
If someone does my walk blind I scribble a few notes for tricky addresses, hidden shortcuts, unclear routes, and slot them into the frame at the point where it's relevant...it seems to work fine.
I've suggested to manager to orint a few off so you can just slot them in for anyone doing any walk, but not interested..
Whats the panic ?,,Over a 100 walks in our office,,,Be nice to go on one that that you had done before !!! Spend more than a week on a walk at our place as a reserve and someone starts moaning about you being in favour,..Having said that isnt every walk a blind walk the first time you do it ??
i sometimes manage better on blind walks if your on a walk for ages an air of complacency can creep in, look at this way your hardly taking over the controls of an aircraft for the first time or performing a brain operation its just using a bit of common sense although i know that doesnt help a good tip is to number your bundles .

Many thanks
As an old guy I work with says (an RM stalwart who goes to different offices to do OT) 'it's just sticking letters through holes, what's it matter where I do it'
Looking at the big picture he's right. The next address in your bundle can never be far away so just follow it round. I've done 45ish walks and never got properly lost - walking around a bit looking for the next road yes of course, we all have, but you'll soon find it
Usually and i'm not sure whether it is set in stone or just a thing at my place but if you haven't been on a walk for 6 months you get excused off the IPS to help the prepping.
Whether it's right or not i guess having WS mail would make this redundant anyway.

Good luck, I had to do four blind walks in a week when I took a cover duty!
To follow up on the other tips, i'd advise you not to be afraid of asking members of the public if you're not sure about a house number, building, street etc etc Chances are they are local and can point you in the right direction, the worst that can happen is they don't know! I mention this because some council estates round my way are complete mazes, on one estate you occasionally have to deliver to back doors, houses 1-11 Talbot close are actually located on Newcastle road (road names fictional!) It's as if they were designed purely to confuse the postman. Sometimes a quick question to the passing local granny can save you a lot of time, aggro and boot leather!

There's a walk in our office where you deliver to the back doors on eight streets in a row. However, and here's the catch, there's a house on each one (a completely random house) where you have to go round the front! And it's not as if it's the same number house or a house in the same place (i.e. some kind of obvious design or pattern that you get the hang of). It's as if somebody is taking the piss.
