I'm usually in full support of strike action being 100% of the workforce nationwide but on this occasion with the terrible circumstances in the Gloucester area I personally would not argue with the affected areas going in . . . . . as long as it was in the benefit of the public and nothing to do with Royal Mail asking for it . . . . . I saw on the news today that people in the worst hit areas are starting to get water back on but, at the moment it's undrinkable. We should all have, about our offices somewhere, special leaflets to ditribute in such emergency situations and the public, with no electricity, may have no other way of getting such info.

Our arguements are not with the public . . . . . if we have to be flexible to serve them then so be it, in such extreme circumstances

Of course the whole story about it being cancelled is more than likely just another manager lie anyway

That is exactly the point I was trying to get across, it happened during last national strike, there was a bomb in belfast which disrupted deliveries for over a week so they missed a strike as the day of i/a was the first day that they could get into delivery office( something like that anyway) i am sure belfast posties can put me right if I am wrong.

No, we in Glos area will not be striking this week, we had a manager tell us and then a photo copied letter from CWU confirming it, and suggesting that the strike maybe rescheluded for the week beginning 6/8/7. I think part of it was becuase the Glos MP wrote a letter to CWU, me personally think it's good PR for the CWU, how would we look if all the emergency and army are helping if we went on strike.
I just hope all the papers and media print the story.

Write to the local rag and it should hopefully be picked up as a feel good story. Most local rags have contacts with the nationals.

good luck to you all in that area . . . . . . . perhaps a few well chosen pics of posties in uniform going beyond the call of duty to help out those in need, could be sent to the local and national papers . . . . . lets remind the public that we may be a little militant but we're not a bad lot
