I will be bringing this into work to show, Now all we need to Know is what sort of agreement RM and CWU come to about any Damage caused to vans over night by Idiots coming home drunk, kids playing football, rideing bikes ect.
We have had overnight retention for 3 or 4 years now due to us merging with another D.O. and being located in an industrial estate.
Damage has never been a problem although you right we do need an official agreement as damage is going to happen as retention becomes more widespread.
We have, however had a member dismissed for inappropriate use of the vehicle outside working hours.....just a warning. :hmmmm
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

I thought it was 30 000 and they were in a field near Colchester.

:Very Happy Don't quote me on this, but did somebody not say they were on an aircraft carrier out in the ocean? Do all these vans have to be taxed and and insured whilst lying idle?

in our office sevaral drivers at least 4 take vans home, yard is too small.
i have on some occassions taken a van home (when my car was off the road office is 10 miles away)
as far as i know they dont get taxed on this, but all sign a form to say they will not use it outside duty hour/for personal use .

No. So long as they're not used or stored on the road, and RM take out SORNs on them. Then there's no tax or insurance required. They don't even need MOTs, until they're put on the roads. Although I doubt that any of them are old enough to require an MOT yet.

This is why we need a solid agreement on this so we all know where we stand. Another case me thinks of different area's being told or having different agreements leaves us all open to Managers pulling the wool over our eyes as to what is and isn't allowed ! leaving us open to disciplinary action being taken against us.

heres my problem if we take vans home fine
but as soon as we turn ignition key you must surely be starting work so therefore you should get paid from that time
you will be driving for rm if your driving your working if working you get paid :dance
surely not rocket science and if they dont pay you leave van drive to work in own vehicle its not our prob
nb. rm mgmt have always used arguements in the past were not due a lift into work in our do
and victimised and bullied people with this before threatening to do away with rural transportation
so my answer no pay no play their problem its not us who want to change start times etc

Now there's an interesting thought by guv.
Say your start time is 6,but you have to get in the van at 5:30 to get to work, there's 30mins there and another 30mins back, that is an hr!
Then there is the 15mins van check every morning that is a conduct issue if it is not done and stuff is wrong with the van, who's going to help us with that?
And what if somethings wrong with it?

:funneh I can just imagine me mrs in her winceyette and curlers helping me out :nervous
Brakes working love?
Yes
Indicators?
Yes,no yes no....

Tbf though some of the car user would jump at the chance to take one home.

Should you be using the words "Wales", "buggery" and "sheep" all in the same sentence?
