Re: part timers
With regard to this 75% / 25% full time / part time split the agreement is aiming at, this should be sounding out some real alarm bells for everyone FT and PTmers. The way I see this is, in delivery offices it will not be in terms of actual jobs but in the hours that are allocated to the office (when they ask for savings its always in hours not jobs). Out of a staff at present of 64 we have 35 full time and 29 part time (ranging from 10 to 30 hour contracts) So now even from these numbers we are going to lose hours/ jobs when the changes come in (Park and Loop / is being trialed in this week covering two duties using part timers) . We have already seen part timers leave and those who have replaced them come in on reduced contracted hours. We have three full timers about to retire and these jobs will not be offered to part timers but used as an opportunity to absorb and make changes to the office. Once the sorting machines are in place the savings pressure will be greater on the DO to reduce hours even more, which will not bring about full time postions for those part timers who come into the business hoping to gain full time employment (The lino was honest enough to tell me that they would be no full time jobs coming to the office when I told him I was going to my contracted hours). To stay with the theme of this thread, part timers should treat the job as PART TIME and find other employment to supplement their needs and support their families. All the best Brothers and Sisters
