richystran wrote:Cheers for the replies, yeah it seems to be very selective in our office! What has angered me is that we are in a spdo and we dont have a manager in or office for more than 5 mins a fortnight! So the "postmaster", if thats what you would call this person, has let this person onto a run which is temp avaialble as the "usual postman" is now a temp manager, probably going to be permanent! And i have been promised the next walk is mine, as im next in line! Im currently a floater!
Now i have been in the job coming up 7 years and this person is only in 2 and a bit, funny thing is that hes a managers son lol, i tryied to rectify the problem ages ago to no avail, and really was angry that i lost out on all election material!
I was talking to the manager just before i was off on hols and told him i want it sorted before i come back and he said "its a delicate situation and it will be sorted" I cant understand that one! To me its just straight forward your here and im here, simplez!
I just want to prepair myself and know tha facts before i tackle the situation head on, and POSTMAN you reckon its definitly a fact thats it still counts?
The only reasons that it won' apply would be if there are surplus OPGs in your office or DDAs or Family Friendly OPGs or Pay Protection cases, all of those come before seniority.
Thanks again!

I'm sure there is a thing that you can't sign for loads of walks per year, something about you have to wait 12 months before signing again.
Obviously if there is a major revision then the chances are it would not apply.
From Recourcing jobs-Way Forward which supplements the Way Forward Agreement.5. Employees should not be included in a re-sign unless they have completed 12 months on the previous duty
they selected. The only exceptions to this are where:
.Their duty has significantly altered as defined in "Change Criteria" .New duties, above the previous template,
have been advertised.
.The individual was placed into their current duty on appointment or due to consequential vacancy, following a
previous re-sign.
.Less than 12 months have elapsed since the last Office/Unit re-sign.
.For specialist jobs, for which the applicant has been trained.
.As a result of serious personal or domestic reasons.

how will seniority work when the new revision comes in when pairing up for van share what if someone doesnt want to drive a van and goes down the list then someone who has been in the job 2 minutes ends up bein your partner posties with service will then lose a duty they would like and get the crappy walks i no it sounds confusing but people in my office dont want to drive vans

If they choose not to drive (notice I use the word choose) then they are limiting the duties available to them and they do this in the full knowledge of the consequences.
For instance if there are 100 duties total and 50 of them are drivers duties in CDVs then those unable or who elect not to drive can only select one of the 50 non driving duties. They can however, AFAIK select from those 50 duties on a seniority basis.
If anyone does not want to drive fair enough that is their choice, but the consequence of that choice is they are themselves limiting the number of duties that are open to them.
As I see it - everyone will be placed in seniority order on a list.
Then all duties they can do are offered. (ie if they cant drive they cant select a driving duty)in that order.
If they don't want to drive they select from the 50 non driving duties - if they do then they can select from any of the 100 duties.
If all the driving duties are selected then all posties left choose from the non driving side.
If however, all the non driving duties are taken and you don't want to drive then you become a non driving reserve or try for a transfer.

Re: Seniority!
Do we know how they are going to decide what is driving jobs? What if you are able to be a driver and you want and are able to remain on your own delivery but they decide that your delivery is not going to be a driving duty? I can forsee a lot of headaches.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:

Re: Seniority!
You wont be doing just your duty any more in essence the 1 CDV delivery will be 2 current walking deliveries (with all the tracked, firms, specials, recordeds, large packets added on) and its up to you two, to a degree, how you share out the workload.Patrick Clifton wrote: Do we know how they are going to decide what is driving jobs? However, RM ARE NOT ALLOWED to just bolt two walking deliveries together, they have to adjust the deliveries and plan them in SMALL LOOPS.

BTW. They pushed this through by EA even though we said it wasn't going to work.

Re: Seniority!
we have 2 systems in our office. seniorority and favouratism.
when their is a new position going for a walk in the ofice. whoever applies, the person with most seniorority will get it.
if somebody breaks their leg, they will just use of of the new guys to cover it. e.g. one guy started, after 2 weeks, was doing 30 hours from 20 hours. but, wehave people who have been on 20 hours for over 5 years. im sure if they said sommit they wouldget it but otherwise the manager just picks his favourate.

Re: Seniority!
Ok heres a little update on the situation! Have been talking and the manager says that because the duty is temp available, been empty 2 years now due to normal postman being dupity manager, that i should not be on this run! This is the second line of defence, the first time the manager talked to me it was the excuse that i did not want to do door to doors, which was misinformation, and i put him right, so this is the next of it!
I said that is not a valid reason and sould have been offered this run in the first place which i wasnt, he sort of agreed and then said that his boss doesnt want to train the person on other runs!! BUT the person know the other runs and knows as much as me, so i dont know what to do next. I reckon the other person has said that he will need refreshers etc but i know this is untrue as he was fit to swap his duty with mine etc and done the duty no probs reciently!
Im really stuck on this one tbh and want to know if i should stick to my guns etc and that im in the right! Ive lost over £3000 in d2ds, tips and election materail over the period, which makes me angry!
Thanks in advance!

Re: Seniority!
How is it possible that a walk that has always been classed as full time, suddenly be altered to part time status so that as a full timer I won`t be able to sign for it?, I`ve been taking it for 15 months ever since the guy that was signed to it got suspended and I have built up a rapport with my customers , the walk is exactly the same size as any in the office 3.30 to 4 hrs long, our union rep is part time and seems to only help causes that further this own agenda, I`m fed up!.

If I remember rightly 75% of your office staff MUST full-time. Whether they make a walk PT or FT is irrelevant.
I've never liked RM based seniority. It doesn't reward the hard working at all.

How do you define hard working and who decides who the hard workers are ?Postal Postie II wrote:If I remember rightly 75% of your office staff MUST full-time. Whether they make a walk PT or FT is irrelevant.

Re: Seniority!
We haven`t had a full resign in our office for over 15 years, even on the last one, a piece of paper was brought around with walks and who was signed to them on it and you had to tell the gaffer if you wanted to stay on it or pick another from a list, so, if you were signed to something pucka you could stay on it, suffice to say the other list comprised of walks 4 hours plus or estate`s where dogs roam in packs.

They say it doesn't but it blatantly does. Its wrong and a load of bullshit. I respect my elders and people who've been in the job along time but that's as far as it goes.
