The ballot is not covered by employment legislation , it was a consultative ballot. It was conducted by independent scuritneers who are granted a lience to perform ballots and who are impartial and fair. It is not against the rules to count ballot papers as they come in, it cant be rigged as the numbers on the ballot papers are marked to regions and the cwu cannot introduce new ballot papers.
hmmmmm scuritneers who are granted a lience :hmmmm freudian slip?? :hmmmm

Yes sorry for that but you have to remember that trade unions are only required by law to use independent scrutineers for the following ballots

1. Industrial action ballots involving more than 50 people.

2. Ballots to establish and periodically review the political fund.

3. Ballots concerning the amalgamtions of unions

4. Elections to certain trade union positons.

All other ballots can be done in various ways. The CWU have it written in its rule book to consult via indivdual member ballot and therefore opt to use independent scrutineers who are experienced in the conducting of ballots and are totally impartial.

The truth! wrote:Well your doing above the average in terms of delivery points. But lets examine your issue you recieve 3 items per week minus your annual leave and minus the chrismas weeks including between the eves, plus any sick leave now thats appoxmately leaves 43 weeks at £30 x 43 = £1290 against the supplement which is £20.60 x 52 weeks which equals £1071.20 so your loss is £218.80 per year totalling £4.20 per week. The pay rise is worth 2% which is over what you were going to lose on door to door and next year the supplement goes up with the year two pay rise.

Plus you have door to door in workload you get to keep more hours in your office and you also get better attendances.

Now if you are a part timer when you have your walk sequencing revison you will get an increase in your hourly rate over an above what a full timer gets ie a 20 hour contact will get £5.94 rise and a 30 hour contract will get £6.60.

The union has said some will lose from this deal and thats always differcult but it is for the greater good with the changes we face which may stun some when they see the level of change on its way and then some may understand the reasons why the union did this deal.

That's assuming that there will be only 3 d2ds a week. Removing the cap was the biggest deal breaker for me. The fact that I could be doing 3 (or vastly more) d2ds a week while the guy next to me scratches his asss doing no more than 1 a week. Over the years the difference in round size and workload has increased drastically in my office. We have 2 thirds of the office carrying the lucky few. At least a seperate payment for d2ds meant you were paid for doing extra work compared to others. It's just another way that some people will be forced into doing a much heavier workload than thier co-workers who earn the same money.

As for a rigged ballot well I have only found one delivery guy in my office that voted yes and that was because he thought the union were so useless he's just given up altogether, perhaps that's where alot of the extra yes votes came from. Lets face it with this unions track record of negotiating themselves out from a strong positon into a worse one is legendary.

There are also many delivery staff who never recieved a ballot paper at all, were the bosses as careless with those workers who were more likely to vote yes ie processing staff?

I find it laughable that Ward and the union in general are hailing this vote as a vote of confidence. Only one third of the union workers voted yes. That's hardly a resounding victory is it? Two thirds either voted no or were so pissed off with the whole deal they didnt even bother voting that to me says it all :no no
Union what Union? Do we have a union?

I bet they were straight on the phone to the banks to see if their little bonuses have been paid in after the official result was known.

BALLOT RIGGED TO A YES VOTE!

Post by daveyctvr »

The ballot has to be rigged!

Every single person I've spoken to voted NO. Some staff in my office haven't received a ballot paper yet!

Manager says this morning that some ballot papers were caught up in revenue protection due to underpayment so the deadline was extended!

It's very fishy.. Where do we go to get an independent investigation on this?. Royal Mail and the CWU have rigged this I'm telling you!

Clutching at straws.
Don't believe everything people tell you.
Why was it not rigged when we voted to go on strike last year?
Because that decision suited you?
It is funny how the vote is always rigged when the decision goes against certain people.
I can tell you that I voted in favour of the agreement, but had the result been the other way round, I would not have come on here shouting rigged. I would have abided by the majority, even if that resulted in further strike action.
The most unusual aspect of the vote was the turnout. That should be questioned much more than those that did vote.

Have to agree with Banner. A lot of people in offices are lying about the way they voted. As he says, the most worrying aspect about the vote is the pitiful turnout over such an important issue. The message is clear, those of us who truly care and are prepared to fight for protecting/improving our conditions are outnumbered by those too apathetic to even give a s**t and those who can be easily herded by CWU HQ.

that or the ballot papers were not sent out in the 1st place.

something very fishy happened in this ballot.half of our office didnt get a paper at all.

that is just one office out of how many who were in the same boat.surely ALL the ballot papers should have been sent out to every worker cwu has on thier books.

this doesnt seem to be the case.if everybody had a ballot paper then there would definately have been a bigger amount of ballot papers returned.

1 guy at our works got his ballot paper today ffs.

Because thats what the union wanted. This time they wanted a yes...and got one.

You haven't got a hope in hell of going against what the Union and Royal Mail want. One or the other maybe, but not both.

Night Tonic wrote:This site has never had any influence on the outcome of ballots or the changes made by the CWU or RM and it frequently gets it wrong, particularly in its polls which I've always said are meaningless. Its just a site at the end of the day, somewhere to grumble and most of the time thats all it is, just grumbles. It has no weight at all in the real world. People on here harp on about democratic votes but when it doesn't go their way, all of a sudden its rigged.

Too much read into doom and gloom threads with no substance to back them up other than opinion and some of you get carried away with it all. If people don't vote, thats THEIR choice, as much as its your choice to vote. If there really was a groundswell against the deal, don't you think there would have been a resounding NO even on a low turnout? RMC doesn't reflect the vast majority in any shape or form but it suits those who choose to use it, including political activists who like to come on here and stir you into a frenzy for their own ends.

Rigged ballot? No just bad losers. Ward gave you the reasons why you should vote yes and like the predictions about the outcome, predictions about a mass exodus from the union will also be wrong. What people say on here has little to do with what they do outside and chances are, many who used this site also voted yes but won't admit that. In the end, you have no idea who you're talking to on here or whether statements made by others are true and its a foolish man that reads it as gospel. If you're gutted you only have yourself to blame on that.

My footer quote has said that for a long time.
NT I never thougth I would do this but hay ho here we go :Applause

If that's how you feel about it NT, why don't you take the advice you're always doling out to the "grumblers" and go somewhere else?
