If all else fails then gel blister plasters are great
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

I have the DM boots. Luckily enough, they aren't branded with the Royal Mail logo so I intend to wear them out and about
Breaking them in is a nightmare though...I guess 2 pairs of thick socks is the way to go, or wear them in the bath for an hour or so to soak them and then let them dry.

Squash/hammer the back into the shoe and put a table leg on it for a day or two - it forces the sides, which cut into ankle bones, outwards.coca cola wrote:Get a hammer and smash the back of the doc martins it def helps

Used this method on my Pit BootsTrueBlueTerrier wrote:No that's the method along with Straight4ward urine (your own) I used for all my time in the Mob. You should not get a urine smell as once you have softened them make sure you polish them once or twice a day for a few weeks. The perfume in the polish and its constituents will mask the smell. Also never ever use bright yellow pee for that exact reason.Stormproof wrote:Someone told me to put them on and then stand in a bowl of water until they are soaked through. Once soaked take them off and allow to dry slowly, not on rad or airing cupboard. Don't know if it works because I were'nt sure if they were winding me up or not![]()

Forget to add - to aid the natural process of drying get newspaper and roll into balls and put it into the shoe/boot.

Re: Tips on breaking in Doc Martens?
They are easier to break in, in fact I wore them out of the box, but as for lasting ages - nooo, wouldn't agree with that.Sherpas Rule wrote:This post is a blast from the past! I gave up on them in the end, CAT boots are much easier to break in and last for ages!
As for DMs, wear them a bit at a time, round the house, nipping to the shop, in the rain.. Whatever method you use it takes a bit of effort!

Re: Tips on breaking in Doc Martens?
finally got my dm boots today, am wearing them around the house to try and break them in (having rubbed dubbin into them). hopefully won't get too many new blisters as they're pretty much identical to the dms i already had, and my feet have got pretty hard skin in places from wearing those…

wore them all day today and although they obviously feel a bit new, they're certainly wearable…

Not surprised they only lasted two months if you put them on the radiator. The dubbin will maybe add a little more time before water pisses through them on a rainy day, but will also make your feet sweat like anything which could well lead to athletes foot.tonyjkilleen wrote:get a tin of dubbin from a camping shop and apply thickly shed loads of the stuff all over the leather uppers, let them soak in by placing shoes on a hot radiator overnight ,and rub off excess wax in the morning do this occasionaly for a week and they will be fine ,UNFORTUNATELY MY LAST PAIR ONLY LASTED 2 MONTHS!!!!
