Yes W - I noted before the rather peculiar circumstances of this particular arrangement. If it turned out to be a YES vote against all the odds - what would be the chance of having an independent scrutineer checking the count? Surely a union with nothing to hide could object to a group of ordinary members scrutinising the veracity of the vote?

I well remember the Bush election and I think it was the Florida (?) voters.

On a previous vote there was a large number of voting papers going AWOL - and then of course there are "spoiled" papers - would a tea stain count, tear stain?
seen it already at a local level...a spoiled paper that thwarted the result to keep out "the wrong type" of rep....lost by 1 vote...

then experienced the lengths some will go to spike an election challenge....my bid for Branch Secretary hindered by the circulation of a spoiler to every member on the day the ballot papers went out...paid for, of course, with the members money....

now reading some of your posts you obviousy know who I am referring to and he seems a friend of yours......I always liked the guy, but there again who really does pull the strings in my ex branch?......someone we all know and love on this forum....

people say on here...if you can do better, stand....well I certainly did that and you soon learn about the "democracy" of the CWU....

and it isn't easy pursuing justice...for example just try the Certification Officer....not straightforward and all the cards are held by our "democratic" unions...even I had to give up on that one...too much effort for too little reward....

...sounds like the deal of the century....

So we'd get what we are getting now instead of less but with the changes coming in anyway - sounds OK to me if its means we are better off than if we accept the deal. :Very Happy :Very Happy

Anyone know what the timetable is for sending out the ballot papers / 'return by' date / announcement of the NO vote ?

My concern is that the longer the process drags on, the more likely it is that people will become resigned to the thought 'it's going to happen anyway' and not bother to vote at all , thereby guaranteeing that the money-grabbers Yes votes win the ballot by default :d'oh! :nervous

it's a sad day when we mistrust our own union this much, the very people we are supposed to put our faith in.

But I do understand these feelings right now

This deal is utter rubbish and should be rejected by the members. Am i surprised its so bad the answer is NO -having had first hand experience of our national negotiators during a dispute in Stoke which lasted 3 weeks the members were returned on terms far worse than those which they orignally walked out for.

It will soon be election time for the PEC they have already endorsed this deal its time for us to use our votes - vote NO to this pile of crap in both BALLOTS.

ITS TIME FOR A CHANGE AT THE TOP THIS UNION THROUGH THIS DEAL IS PROTECTING ITS RECOGNITION AGREEMENT WITH RM, WHILST DE-RECOGNISING ITS OBLIGATIONS TO ITS MEMBERS.

unfortunately having seen whats happened in the past,i don't think it matters which way you vote! bet your bottom dollar this agreement will come in regardless, number one on the agenda must be that everyone (full and part time) must start doing this job to the letter of the law, then RM will have to start putting money/hours back into offices!!

And I say good riddance to Royal Mail too - although in fairness, despite knowing nothing of the postal industry they have done a great job of destroying what was once a postal service renowned throughout the world. The company to all intents and purposes, including the pension, is bankrupt.

I'm always amazed that people who hate the firm this much work here at all, if you hate it that much why not go elsewhere. I love the job and I love the camaraderie I just wish the management, union and workers could all work together rather than just spending all their efforts fighting each other. And before you say it, I'm aware that the majority of the blame for this lies with the management (as observed by the independant report done a few years ago) but I would still like efforts put in to make this company better rather than to destroy it as "silverback" seems to prefer.
