Re: Billy Hayes at our AGM
Think we will know soon enough, I heard through the grapevine that Wednesday will see the conclusion of the talks. It would be nice to know where we are currently at instead of getting absolute zilch from our union heirarchy. The earlier post got it spot on cos we have people negotiating on behalf of us who are career minded (not posties) and who dont know what we have to work under

Re: Billy Hayes at our AGM
There are fundamental problems with D2Ds that cannot be resolved immediately. The numbers per office/area are not the same weekly and so the payment cannot really be across the board. Royal Mail would need to increase the contracts before making any commitment to a blanket agreement, unless they've been at it for the last three months. Finally there is the method of delivery which is crucial to acceptance. Most members would agree to a consolidated package rather than an increase which would have to be prepared BUT we will have to see what the deal is.Roy Mayall wrote:Dave Ward will not do anything without consulting Billy Hayes, so he will be fully aware of all that is being discussed. I think if they increase the numbers of D2D we should refuse to deliver it. It's too much already.

I think that D2Ds might actually act as our saviour. I heard RMs bringin these new sortin machines in to our office and that they will dramatically cut down the amount of time sorting

Trying to put a date on the conclusion of these talks is like nailing jelly to a wall. You would have to know before hand how long an argument will take and who will give way.Unless the negotiations ARE finished and they are now emptying the minibar and maxing out their CWU credit cards.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

I do agree with Roy Mayall. We all know that there are the odd week when D2Ds make up our bags, but there are many times when the volume of traffic makes it impossible to get all done within your contracted hours. Thats with 3 items, god knows how we are going to hump 6 of these around and you can bet your life they wont all be flimsy sheets. I can see several free newspapers coming on board. If we have to do 1 item per day, that will mean calling on every household bar the opt-outs, so that will increase our workload by 15% approx assuming we normally call on 85%. I have a nasty suspicion that there is an alterior motive to get us to strike again, as they know this will not be acceptable to the membership, and this time I think they are going to hit the strikers hard. The only way to boycott this type of action is to work to rule, work to contract, bring back mail unable to deliver within time, and see how they cope.
