What if your 'buddy' is sick or on holiday?

What if they take longer and claim and you have to finish on time?

What if you cant park anywhere. Many streets on saturdays are rammed with vehicles in my area.

I bet £1000 that if we had park and loop already they would be switching it to bikes...i bet you!

Bag and Bike is the best way to deliver mail.

Royal Mail managers are completely retarded.

to be honest id rather have a bike now
ive been on this for months now and had nothing but stress.

people who cant drive
who don't no were there going
who finish time is different.

waiting for the other person to finish there bag before you can drive to another location of the round.

GIVE ME A BIKE !

:wave
Please let's not take it out on colleagues who cannot drive.

It is not a condition of delivering for RM that you must be able to drive.

If they try and get me to take an indoors job because I don't drive (which I suspect they may try to do with non-drivers) I will scream "Discrimination!" from the highest rooftop in the land...and bare my arse too for good measure!
i dont take it out on the colleagues who cant drive its not there fault.
its the managers who cant organise

people who cant drive ive seen spare.
do cut off etc.... as thats the only thing available

Im also on family friendly, and start an hour earlier than everyone else, how will that work ??

Also, lots at our place say even though they can drive, they dont want to drive for royal mail, dont want the pressure/responsebility of looking after some1 else etc etc

what will they do then ?

I would suggest this .

1.Ask your rep these very questions and if he can't answer them(which he can't).
2.Ask your rep to ask your area rep and if he can't answer them(which he can't).
3 Ask your rep to ask your area rep to ask your divisional rep and if he can't answer them(which he can't)

maybe he'll ask Dave and Bob and if they can't answer them(which they can't)
You and me are both f*cked. :cuppa

It is simple:
Park and Loop:
One driver and one non-driver.
One parks, the other loops.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Our rep isn't even interested in our concern's over park and loop. He's convinced himself the union know's what's best for us and we don't have a clue.

First things first there will be agreed guidelines for the introduction of car derived vans. Secondly some indivuduals who make a decison now that they wont drive a vechicle in the future may change their mind when they realise that will restrict what job they can do in the future.

Once an office has a delivery method revison and all offices will have one then there will only be 3 modes of delivery , 1, HCT , 2. Powered HCT or car dervived vans for walks further than a mile from the office. No other method of delivery will be allowed from then on. ie no bikes no HCTs past a mile or the use of private cars.

Now the way the guidelines propose things should happen is everyone is first asked the following questions on a one 2 one basis

Home address
current use of private cars on delivery
current travel arrangements to work
any disability or other significant needs
whether indivduals hold a driving lience
whether indivduals are willing to drive a Royal Mail vehicle

In addition the manager should also identify the following on a general basis

current availablity of private parking at the office
public transport arrangements to the office
parking availabiltiy near to the office
future availability of private parking on Royal Mail premises.

This information will assist in planning future solutions.

With regards to how duties will be allocated in future on car derived vans then the following is in Royal Mail`s guidelines.

1. Duties should be divided driving and non driving.
2. People covered by the DDA should be offered suitable duties as a priority in the process of the re-pick
3. Driving duties will be restricted to existing and volunteer new drivers and non -driving duties will be restricted to non -drivers only.
4. A driver is needed for every shared van pair. Only one non-driver can pick into a shared van duty pair.
5. Shared van partners without driving liences will be restricted to 50% or less of the total number of shared van partners.
6 The cover and leave reserve for the shared vans must be drivers to ensure that the van can be taken out each day

The guidelines also cover all the following

Matching people to job requirements
removal of support duties
Dealing with drivers who invalidate themseves from driving ie alchool or drugs , medical conditons or driving offences.
Shared van: people confilicts
Leave arrangements
retained van recovery and leave
Shared vans :vechile accountablity
Allocating employee to vehicles to be retained overnight
Staff no longer able to park private cars on site

There is a section where indivudual needs are taken into account and where pratical this can take be agreed.

Your second post is even more informative than you first.
Thank you for the this information. It will be invaluable since management seem keen to move on with CDVs and park&loop despite the fact we have no agreement yet.

They cant amend OUR contracts and we were taken on with no mention of driving being an issue.

Your son in law will be/would have been taken on part time, no more full time jobs are or ever will be available im reliably informed. So the new part timers are taken on knowing that many of them are likely to be chauffering us full timers around who cant drive
Of cause RM can change your contract. It may be unlikely but they are well within their rights to do so if they wish.

In real life they can and do change contracts fairly regulalrly.

However, in law they cannot do it without your agreement but there are 3 main ways round it.

1. They dismiss you and then rehire you on the new contract. (Your option is to not accept the contract and that means your sacked).
2. They present you with a new contract and you sign it without reading it. (no way round this so always check what you sign).
3. The offer you and new contract which you dont agree with, you then agree to work under the new contract whilst you "think it over" after a period because you have worked under the new contract you are then deemed in law to have accepted it.

There is really only 1 practical way for employees to tackle a change of contract and thats to not accept the new contract, in writing, and pursue a case for unfair dismissal in ET (constructive dismissal)

This is just a brief overview but full details on the law can be found on the directgov website
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/ ... G_10037116" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is a good page to start on.

I don't think RM have any intention of changing contracts.
They will simply use human nature.
You will have to register your intention to drive before any resign.
If you are a driver you will have a wider choice of duties to pick from.
Very few will want to limit their chances and end up a non-driving reserve.

Having read through the guidelines for managers, is anyone else left thinking it sounds way too complicated to work?

I can think of several reasons why I don't want it:

1) In our last re-sign, I finally got a driving duty after many years of trying. Although my duty still entails between an hour and an hour and a half on foot each day, the idea of going back to doing a full walk doesn't appeal in the slightest.

2) I prefer to work alone. Of all the people in my office, there are only a few I feel I could work closely with day in, day out. And I'd be happier putting my manhood in a mincer than working closely with some of them.

3) Everyone's abilities are different. I'm the first to admit I'm not the quickest at walk-prep. You can imagine my sharer being really happy if he is ready and I'm not. And once you're out there, everyone is different. I walk plenty quick enough, but I'm quite short, so am never going to be able to walk as quick as someone a foot taller than me.

4) I'm the last person to worry about the environment. But, what about the environmental impact of all these extra vehicles? In fact, I'm surprised none of the environmental charities have picked up on this, or the Green Party.

I'm sure there are plenty of other reasons against too. As for reasons for....no, can't think of any. :arrrghhh
