I`m currently doing the kill offs and I can`t get over how s**t the staff are at sorting these days, sure they know there own small area but anything else without a postcode(even though it`s the same town  ) gets shoved off onto the kill off zone as a matter of fact.
Whatever happend to learning all of your office area?
If they can`t be arsed learning the new staff, then this oldtimer isn`t arsed either and the crayon goes to work.Merry xmas! Bah Humbug.
Royal Mail managers.....about as popular as a t.urd in a swimming pool!

  Kill off zone - we have to do ours ourselves - which presents the exact opposite problem - the badly addressed ones keep bouncing from walk to walk till some mug, usually me, kills it off. :Very Happy

This is a good idea but it would take ages for me to write one up for my walk and unless I did it in my own time I wouldn't get a chance to do it. Would only be for my own reference anyway as the spares and the matrix man wouldn't give a toss.

im a reserve and managed to find 3 on the walk today to the right address, dont like killing them off unless realy necessary. i like the ones that just say the "cottage" and the town name, somebody shouts out the name and a chorus of replies follows. its funny how so many house names that never get used during the year are used at xmas. :Very Happy

KILL THEM OFF SIMPLES unless you the know the name of the intended address.

The way the structure is in R/M now we dont have time to look up incomplete addresses as this would affect our performance standards and will result in some sort of councilling from the DIM witted DOM.

There's lots of genuine mistakes out there, especially this time of year.
If you don't know the address yourself, don't you talk to one of your colleagues and try to work it out between you ?
After all, the local knowledge we have sets us apart from any of the so called competitors ... :cool
kill em off mate
the days i look for an address are long gone
and remember royal mails motto
we dont give a f@@k
Too right ,years ago i knew nearly every one on my walk of about 240 houses ,now with 540 i know hardly any of them and can't be arsed(or have the time) to go through the fitting looking for them :cuppa

This is another reason why there should be a regular postie on every walk. I have delivered dozens of wrongly addressed cards so far this year and have killed hardly any.

Your right.... with a regular postie on the walk badly address items at least have a good chance of being delivered. I remember the days when we had to look through the phone book to try and spot a name, now there is not enough time to do anything like that, and anyway I believe the instruction now is that it should be 'killed off' currently.

With so many part timers covering walks, and being moved around from week to week I bet the dead mail numbers have gone off the scale.

You said it, not enough time to do anything. I mean, how long should it take to go through a 200 delivery point street looking for names where every address has 2 or sometimes three different surnames. Even the PHG just kills em off now. When morale is on the floor, sh1t happens! :Boo hoo!

The only cards i have killed off so far this year are ones where the people moved of the area years ago and nobody remembers where.

I know most names on my walk and the ones I cant remember off the top of my head get a ''T.T.M'' until I remember or spot the name when delivering.

Any that have moved to another walk you can usually remember at least the walk number, if not the house number and street.

Any posties that are to lazy or cynical to try and match up Christmas cards should be looking for a new job. In my opinion.

i actually pride myself if we can get incomplete address letter to person intended
especially at xmas
not persons fault its not addressed properly but sender and if its got our stamp on it fine i,d even go out my way to locate person intended .thats unless lino doesn,t moan about time wasting who would actually prefer us to kill off.
also its still good if one of your later starts asks whos this for then laughing and not caring
and you can reply with correct address to their astoinshment
cmon guys take bit of pride in all the knowledge you gain over years
it aint the old grannies mums etc fault our company is run by greedy corrupt mgmt and gvmnt
their is not many of us left who give a damn

No but you will be thanked by the person when you get it to the right address. I've managed to get all but one delivered so far, one this morning had come from New Zealand with no number just the block of flats name, city, post code and addressed to granny ****. I've seen an old dear on my round get the odd item from New Zealand in the past so I gave her a knock and success, she was thrilled and thanked me repeatedly for getting it to her. It's doing a little bit extra like that which sets us apart from the competition.

It's really not that hard to check when you get a chance, if needs be leave them until a day when you get a few mins spare to flick through the letters on that road or use your loaf and if it says no 350 on a road with only 60 houses check numbers 3, 5, 30, 35, 50 etc
