Sorry if things go badly for you, but if you were claiming docket for time at home, it was very risky.

Lesson for us all to take our scheduled breaks and don't risk our jobs.

Are you saying in DO's you get to claim docket even when at home ?

(Apologies i'm an MDEC dweller)
No absolutely not. I'll explain this because it looks bad. For the usual round you are supposed to have 4hrs 10mins after you leave DO to finish the duty. That includes 3 1/2 hrs delivery, 15mins max each way travel and 10mins at end to sort out the packets you have brought back. Now if the mail is heavy and you leave the office at 10:30 with a 2pm shift finish you only have 3 1/2 hrs to complete the duty. Clearly not enough time. So you book an extra 40mins which would be till 2:40.

OK so you decide to rush round that day and by working faster than is required you finish at 2:00 (which is 15mins earlier than schedule) So by pushing yourself beyond what is expected you have finished the job 15mins early. If you then go stright home because you have no packets to take back that day and you live 10mins away from duty end you get home at 2:10 with effectively 30mins of your OT left. That's job and finish. If you weren't able to finish early like this and go straight home then you would not rush round and you'd usually have to claim more OT as going at the normal speed and then returing to the office can easily add an hour to a duty.

So this practice saves the company money and rewards extra-hard work. However it also encourages people to rush round jumping walls with overweight bags which is why the union want it to stop and have a compulsory 'return to office' policy brought in. Many posties want 'return to office' too as not all rounds are equal by a long way so some can get home early while others struggle on past their time every day or have to cut off.

RM will just close ranks and say none of these working practices went on - rubbish yes ! but that's what will happen . The Union is correct in saying that the charge RM put you on is the crucial thing , also it's the Union's job to trip Royal Mail up if they botch the investigation & not follow their own procedure .

To me ( correct me if I'm wrong ) it sounds like being caught fiddling a time sheet - It MAY be a good idea to put your notice in so RM can't take your pension money and the Social won't penalize you if you jumped before you were pushed .

If they've botched something you might get a warning and they'll always be looking for you OR they may be bloody minded about it .

It mightbe a good idea to see a Employment Solicitor and play the equality card i.e. kids , operations etc , they'll advise you but this is a long shot .

Being hard hearted ,I do not usually condone fiddling, but if you can prove many others in your office do the same, and it has been allowed to go on--then you could argue it is acccepted practice, and you may be in with a shout for keeping' your
job, as management don't want to have spotlight on them and their practices.

if RM sack you they'll take back their share of your pension money , I think ? they've got to give you your holiday pay whether they like it or not .

If you resign , they'll give you a so & so resigned due to child care issues or whatever reference , for all RM's faults ; they're OK in that respect - it's a reward for being a good girl and going quietly if you will .

On the rare occasions when their managers get suspended and disciplined - they always get that option . The IB offer not to prosecute too .

Problem with saying this ghost docket practice is rife is that it puts the rep in a awkward position as the people that are doing it are also his members . You might have a point if there is a command and ignore attitude to ghost docket with managers re certain staff and can prove it .

Well Royal Mail introduced job and finish not us remember so it's a bit rich of them to pull people up for it.

In our office it's common practice for managers to give someone 2hrs OT to do an extra bit or cut off that will take 1hr max. Do the managers get suspended for that? No.

So if you get out late and end up with 3hrs to do a delivery while others get 4hrs where is the juistice in that? Do you book or get paid less for doing the same job as thoses around you? It is employment law that all staff should be treated the same so if someone has to book OT to be getting the same pay for the same ammount of delivery I think that is morally and probablly legally right.

Like I said job and finish saves the company money, so long as it 's not abused, because going back to the office after doing the job properly takes much longer and OT claims would be higher.

no you do not.. :evil/mad
There was a thing in the past called Ghost overtime - in effect you got docket for any work above and beyond your own duty and any other tasks associated for it. Thats gone by the board now - now you can only claim the hours you really worked.
