Re: friday-monday strikes pay issue
No it is not ilegal Royal Mail finish their pay calculations on Tuesday so any strike action taken on Monday will be deduced in time for that Friday`s pay. We have seen this on many occasions in London during this dispute.

Quite right too. heaven forbid our union subscription's should be used for our benefit. 120,000 menmber's all paying around £3 each and every week. Where do the union spend all that money.dingo wrote:To recieve money from the CWU Hardship a member needs to provide supporting documentation that the fiancial hardship is down to the strikes. It needs to then be supported by the Branch.
If an indivudual has been in financial trouble prior to the strikes then they would possibly recieve a payment by way of the CWUs national welfare fund.(not the hardship fund )
In London we have had to enforce strict guide lines for the hardship fund which means we have to see rent arrears letters , mortage arrears letters or ballif letters before payment is given. We have £30 000 in the London Hardship fund which sounds a lot but if we give an average of £250 to each claim then we have only enough money to pay another 120 members. There are 12000 members in London who have so far lost 18 days strike action the most so far in the UK down to this strike.
So you see the union will never have enough money to assist everyone as we have 120 000 members.

The Hardship Fund is not financed through subscriptions only donations.
If you want to find out where the money goes read the NEC annual report.
The union does finance something called the NATIONAL WELFARE FUND.
This is probably as close to a crisis fund as it gets but is not limited to Industrial Action.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

could be a bad ploy for the "fringe strikers" (those that are with us but bearly afford it) i can take a double hit but i think there are many that cant...i think the saturday hit for delivery staff was a much better stratergy

I can take the double hit and I know many who will struggle, I do wish that HQ would think all of this throguh before they come up with things like this. Most people have the will to support the strike at least for a while and this will weaken resolve, lead to a little trickle of feet cross the line. This will send all the wrong messages to RM and make it harder to get a workable deal for everyone. We need to re double our efforts and spend time talking to any waverers, then we we need to up the picket line numbers at shift times.
I also know a few who will use this an excuse to cross the line, already today I have seen managers selecting people to ..............lean on a bit in regard to striking. I can not prove anything yet, but its happening I know it is and I just need one of those involved to open up a bit.

I do not think much of a man who is not wiser today than he was yesterday.

2 or 3 more went in last Saturday in our office, still only 7 out of 150, but I can see more starting to trickle back after finding out they're going to lose 2 days pay next week.End of the road wrote:I can take the double hit and I know many who will struggle, I do wish that HQ would think all of this throguh before they come up with things like this.
