I can see where you are coming from foger but it's not time to bend over yet.
I doubt the strikes will have much impact and I'm also sure the Torries will privatise us but until then I'm fighting for what is right!

Re: Forget about striking!
RM is valued at 20 billion+ the government could sell it.. pay the deficit and pocket the difference.greynut wrote:Forgive me if I am wrong, But doesn t privatisation mean selling us to a private investor.
:mfo The Tories or any other party will not get a buyer while we have a pension deficit of between £8-20 billion. A buyer would need that deficit gone and with the country in debt to the tune of some £90 billion, i just don t see any government paying that sort of money out while asking for pay freezes and cuts.
As short sighted as that sounds its a possibility.
Do you remember how the conservatives of the eighties couldn't wait to hock all the family silver?
As i remember Thatcher sold off all the public companies far too cheaply in many cases the share price was set far to low.
I'm a postman-and i know where you live.....

Listen, I love you guys. But let's have a reality check here. Gordon Brown has'nt a snow balls chance on the sun of winning the next election, and you know it. And what do you think this strike is doing to the opinion of the average voter. Well it's not rocket science is it. Well they are more likely to go out and vote tory--right. Especially after their Amazon or their dole cheque did'nt turn up. It's all very well marching up and down the street, waving your banners and dreaming of the 70's. But that is doing nothing to improve the situation. The CWU our union should be forward looking. It does'nt much matter if the company is nationalalised or private, if the union, the TUC or the government are not doing a good job for the people they represent then it will be a disaster. They should set a precedent and come up with something where everybody benefits. Not everybody loses. A fair days work for a fair days pay. You may not like my opinion, but i'm really worried about the tories getting in next year. All they are concerned about is sticking more fat on their already fat arses. I hope the union is trying to get a deal that is best for the Postmen, best for Royal Mail, best for the customer, and best for the country. If privatisation of Royal Mail and a new Labour leader is what it takes for Labour to win the next election, then that’s alright by me.

gordon brown wont give up leadership , its what he has always craved. The tories are imminent to get in now. All we can do is support our union and fight for whats right by ourselves and our future job security and if that means striking then so be it.

LOL. The result of the next general election isn't all that clear cut, I don't know about you, but I thought the Tory conference wasn't that much of a success, was it? Given the almost certain vote loser they outlined in their plans for pensions. I've heard on the grapevine that a lot of grassroots Tories were utterly dismayed and are either voting for the Liberals or UKIP. Either way, their vote will almost be certainly small enough to make Cameron a lame-duck prime minister at best.foger wrote:Listen, I love you guys. But let's have a reality check here. There can be no getting away from the fact that politics in this country is turning people off, and that generally, polling stations are not going to be everybody's 1st or last port of call come election day. Still, no matter who wins the next election, if they set out to privatise the Royal Mail, they'll find it no easier than last time, that's for sure.

Don't you write for the telegraph do you. It seems as your opinion certainly matches theirs, but kind of ignores the bullying and harassment that is the daily lot of most posties.
