Re: Royal Mail Apprentice Scheme Interview...
I do accept that but when you are unemployed, any hope of getting a job is like winning the lottery. When I got the email saying I was successful; I was ecstatic
& said they would be in contact in a few days!
Every day sitting waiting for the phone to ring, constantly checking my emails & still nothing. I rang last week and was told if not the end of the next week, the start of this week. I have tried ringing the recruitment line just now to see if they could shed any more light but the option I need to use says "The office is now closed, please call back between 8.30-5.30!" I am calling in this time!!!
Tried the other options, they either or just automated or they are unable to help me!
It would be nice of them to let me know at least the situation!

I know what you mean - I was the same when I got the phone call to say I was accepted at RM when I started. But then I went through the same as you are facing now - took about 6 weeks from acceptance to start. Keep contacting them though if for nothing else than to keep your mind at rest.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Re: Royal Mail Apprentice Scheme Interview...
Feeling a lot happier today!
Today I spoke to a lovely helpful lady at the recruitment team and she looked into my application status in which she said that my line manager would be happy to have me and is in the process of sending the paperwork back to them.
Apparently because of the volumes of applications for the apprentice scheme and the manager's busy schedule; this is why it has taken a bit longer then usual. She said if I don't hear anything by the middle of next week, I should definately ring them back to enquire!

Re: Royal Mail Apprentice Scheme Interview...
True to their word! They rang today! Exactly 3 weeks after emailing me!
The lady on the phone said I had been successful & would like to know whether I would like to take them up on their offer of employment, wish I gladly said yes but the only thing is, it will be only be a 25 hour contract!
I suppose I can't afford to be too fussy in this climate, and anything is better then nothing. I suppose I can just hope to increase my hours or maybe do the odd bit of overtime if it's available!
Just got to wait 24-48 hours, whilst they do the pre-employment checks & if everything is fine, they will confirm a start date with me this week!
Just in general to all you RM employees out there, is it normal to get a 25 hour contract? or do you reckon it's just because of the current climate & the way the business is operating at the moment?

Re: Royal Mail Apprentice Scheme Interview...
Part Time contracts are the norm in RM and will be more so in the future if RM have their way.
There is always some overtime available in most Units in RM, however, the amount and allocation of its is dependant on local arrangements and agreements.
Average rate is about £8.60 an hour but that's once you have completed your trial. You should get your contract of employment and it should have all the details on there - make sure you keep a copy.

Re: Royal Mail Apprentice Scheme Interview...
I couldn't stand the waiting, so I rang up the recruitment team just before close and the lady said it takes longer then 24-48 hours! And that I should wait until at least midweek before I hear or ring them back!
The only bad point I have to add so far, is the time taken for them to complete the application & since the 23rd when they sent me the email saying I had been successful, what checks did they do in that time! They said they would be in contact in a few days, it literally took them just under a month!
Oh well, hopefully next week brings better news!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Royal Mail Apprentice Scheme Interview...
Rang up today again; persistent I know but I am so desperate for this job!
The very nice lady said she will look into my application, they are waiting for the checks to come back (as part as the vetting scheme) and so I should leave it another few days and not worry as they will definately get ring me!
I know she is right but this application is so long, its been over 2 months since I started the application online and a month tomorrow since I went for the interview. And when I read the paper this morning, the 30,0000 casuals are already been drafted in to start training; how quick was their application process!!!

Re: Royal Mail Apprentice Scheme Interview...
Hello everyone!
Been a while since I posted on here but HOORAY!
, I have my start date for next week. I found out about just under 2 weeks ago. I am a very happy person at the moment and looking forward to the apprenticeship scheme.
Just a few quick questions I would just like to ask;
1. When the helpful recruitment lady took my bank details off me, I realised about a week later; this was my savings account and not current. I rang back to let her know but was told I would have to wait to I start and ask my manager for a form to fill in and change. Is this process fairly quick & hassle free?
2. I rang up to order my uniform today but the guy on the phone said he couldn't do it unless my manager authorises it. Problem is, I haven't spoke or don't have a number for my manager, just a name. I explained I start next week and the first 2 days (induction) would be fine and the dress code is smart casual but what do I wear when I go to my delivery office? Do I wait until next week, most likely be Wednesday when I see my manager for the first time or try and ring through to my d/o and see if I can try and find if I can get my manger to authorise before hand?
By the way, thank you everyone for your help and posts! You were all right! You all have given me a positive impression before I even start!

Re: Royal Mail Apprentice Scheme Interview...
I took part in the apprenticeship and got nothing out of it! Well apart from the qualification through the awarding body! Royal Mail brushed it under the carpet as per usual.

What sort of things did they teach you, and how long did it last for?
