Implications of " giving up driving duties " for RM

totally sympathise with you, I am in a similar position. All the extra hassle and stress for little or no reward. If you stop to take a piss somewhere they are on your case cuz your van was spotted.
Can you pick up this or that? Can you go collect this van? Can you go to another office? Will you take this bit of walk instead of packets? Can you pick so and so up? Remembering every little thing or you get grief and hassle. Keys, staff, bags, empty boxes, specials. If a new scratch appears on your van more trouble.

Hassle, stress, strife, pressure and pretty hard work for an absolutely meagre reward. Plus probably an early death due to it too. Crap, crap, crap, don't go near them trust me. I used to be a normal postie for years and although it is a bit harder now, it is nowhere near as bad as being a driver.

I used to drive Vans, gave them up, as I was getting no extra Pay for the responsibility, I do the one shout a week driving to a MC and thats it, I heard that is going permanently, when that happens, I am withdrawing my licence and just stick on the walk.

something to consider, you can withdraw your licence after all it is your licence not theirs, if you haven't showed your licence for inspection RM cannot allow you to drive, so simple, don't show it, "keep forgetting it" if you want or simple straight out withdrawal.

Check with your Rep as to the implications.

They cannot legally ask you to do any driving duties, if the checks have lapsed, it would be in breach of their Operators licence any incidents would mean they are liable.

Put it in writing and explain your reason. I done this and it was fine eventually! Stress and foot and knee probs.

But surely the important thing is whether you have got a driving license, not whether you have been asked if you possess one.

No, it's one of the conditions of being covered by the RM Bond, that you PROVE to RM that you have a Driving License. They have to have a record of the fact that you have the correct License, BEFORE you're covered. Along with proof of MOT, that you got authorisation from your own Insurance Company, to use the RM Bond, Risk Assessment Performed, etc., etc.. If you fail to comply with ANY of the requirements. Whether people should be using their cars on Deliveries is debatable. But if you DO use it: Make sure you strictly follow procedure, or you'll risk being prosecuted for driving without Insurance. And if you're in an accident, it would be even worse. Because you'd be personally liable for the cost of repairs/compensation, if it was your fault. You could of course, just declare yourself Bankrupt (as many uninsured drivers do). But that wouldn't help the victim(s), would it?
