Yes LGBT/BEM people will have issues at work related to thier LGBT/BEM status and yes the CWU should help them, which may involve interaction in the political community should the CWU start drifting off into the big wide world of LGBT/BEM issues outside the workplace such as names on birth certificates? Thats not a LGBT workplace issue its a LGBT big wide world outside of the workplace issue.

Okay BD - you are going to have to explain LGBT/BEM - I get the Lesbian Gay B?T? and as for BEM??? - I know I am young and naive - you have no idea how difficult it is when the wife sends me for a BLT sandwich or a CAP butty.

The LGBTAC (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Committee) was established by the decision at the NCU conference of 1991 following a campaign. The LGBTAC was continued after the merger that formed the CWU and is an advisory committee. It works in conjunction with the National Executive's Equal Opportunities Committee.

After the merger, the Committee worked for a number of years without a motion based Conference. However, the CWU now has a motion based Conference which held annually. Two of the motions carried at LGBTAC Conferences are forwarded on to the CWU main Annual Conference Agenda.

Priorities

Immediately after Annual Conference the incoming elected LGBTAC will agree a set of priorities that it will focus on for that elected year. Historically some of the issues that the LGBTAC has focussed on includes developing awareness on:

* Transgender Guidelines
* Sexual Health
* IDAHO
* Tackling homophobia in sport

Thanks for that BD - more than adequately explained, just goes to show it takes all sorts - it makes you wonder that there aren't any laws to protect these people and if there is why I'm paying for union jollies for them - I mean how long before we have the LGBT and E (for environmental issues) Conference - and I won't ask if you'll be attending and you don't say OK?

I think annual conference can deal with any enviromental issues effecting CWU mbrs in the workplace perfectley well.

Joking apart , I do not condone any bullying & harassment in the workplace , their lifestyle is no concern of anybodies and it's the same legal services available from the CWU as anyone else .
