Apparently the PO had stripes put down the sides of uniform trousers to stop people wearing them in the pub or on their days off - Viz Comic - " Postman Plod " - a bit exaggerated - Note to Mrs White - it's only a joke in a comic strip , nobody really condones this sort of attitude / behaviour
