We've just started to prep a couple or p/t deliveries, two groups of 4 prepping 2 walks.
Now I for a fact that by doing this and prepping my own walk and delivering it'll take me over my time (with meal relief taken).
When I mentioned this to the DIM,he just quotes Flexability 1/2hr a day , you can't book it!
I thought they had to give you a days notice if your going to work past your time .
I don't want the overtime, but am being told I can't cut off either!
Whats the official line on this feckin flexability ?

This 2 groups of 4 prepping 2 extra walks can only happen if there is a genuine opportunity to absorb the work within your duty hrs. Get a copy of the Pay and modernisation agreement and stuff it under this thick DOM`s nose. If it is taking you longer than your duty hrs dont do it, take it down the IR framework.

Pay and modernisation take it down the IR framework whats that all about just prep your frame properly in the time allowed and go out and deliver if you want to do other peoples work unpaid then thats your look out but dont moan about it. if you dont then dont because if your own prep lasts all the time you are in then what can they do, because it just eats into your delivery and you cut off and they will soon get fedup of that.

we have this kind of thing coming in at our office in a couple of weeks, but under the name "summer lapsing" which means, instaed of prepping walks etc, we will be asked to take out 40 or so addresses of a duty. the duty is determined by someone who has annual leave and we are expected to cover 7 dutys in all. they tried it last year, but as soon as they tried it, we resisted, they are now trying to inforce it again. our rep stated that this is in the aggreement (a phrase which im getting sick of hearing every time i have a question) and we are told we have to do it. also drivers are not required to do it, only walking postmen. we had many questions this morning (none answerd, just written down and as usual told the infamous "we will get back to you"

Unfortunatly Randompostman, we agreed to this pay and modernisation agreement in exchange for a miserly sum of money, now we have to work within its guidelines, you should take time out to read it properly. Too many people blaming the cwu reps for this flexibility when in actual fact it was voted for by a majority. I bet not many reps voted to accept it.

I have red it and the crux of it is if normal time allows, i am not having a go at reps or even members that voted for it or not but we should all make the best of it because its here to stay what i am saying is if you have time then do it if not then dont if lapsing eats into your delivery then cut off dont extend unless you want the overtime but why moan about it the choice is upto the postman if they want it or not. i see nothing wrong with working my hours i have in every other job i have had and my finish time is the finish time so will prep a few households if i manage to get back to the office early but i dont work for nothing and i dont cut corners or break laws to help out royalmail to cut more jobs either seems some people look at this as a complicated thing when its not its easy if they wont pay then dont doit if the threaten then dont doit because every other company asks if you would mind doing a bit extra so why do royalmail think its ok to force people to doit for nothing or just force them to doit even with pay. If i go over then i am doing them a favour by finishing not them allowing me to work over its just a mindset thing and most people here on this site dont seem to get it maybe because they have thought like that for years working for royalmail and thats the oddest thing of all not that a shitty employer has found a new way to make people pay them for the honour of working for them.

if you're lapsing 7 duties then we must assume that this opportunity has been JOINTLY identified and agreed. If not why not, a question i asked just the other day, along with on what particular day did you identify capacity within my duty and subsequently agree with my rep to accept extra workload and why wasn't i approached on the day in question to highlight this.
I'll be honest with the lot of you now, i have no problem pointing the finger at my colleagues who i know can do extra mostly those who come in and start early, use their cars don't sort at all and generally cut huge p*ss taking corners out of their duty. The DOM likes it although the rep doesn't nor do the p*ss takers who rip the guts out of duties and then laugh at you as they drive off home.
IMHO these people are deliberately left alone by lino's and DOM's to create division and resentment. I was even given an excuse by one lino that they were in on o/t later and would be tired so thats why they weren't being asked today.
I tell ya you couldn't make it up if you tried.
I have pursued this in writing and am now left alone, i don't make time, i don't cut corners, i don't come in early, i don't use initiative, i don't try to second guess what i think is correct, i don't use my car, i get questions answered by managers not by popular opinion, i do my job correctly.

I would strongly urge others to do the same it is quite refreshing and liberating as strange as that sounds, it feels as though a weight has been lifted.
Those who wish to continue rushing about like a blue arsed fly, good luck to you, although it's only fair that you don't expect me or people like me to do your work for you, you are not teflon. We do exist and i for one am only too happy to point you out for absorbtion or as they like to call it "utilisation of paid work hours"

How many days are you expected to do this flexibility'? If you are 'expected' to do it every day you'll be 2.5 hours over every week, if you are doing it 2 or 3 days out of 5, unless they take the hours off the other days, you'll still be over. It is my understanding that all hours used by this flexibility are to be returned by the end of that same week. This is no more than unpaid, enforced overtime which is illegal. DIMS will try any and everything. I'd just refuse to work unpaid overtime and hope they conduct coded me right to an ET.

It should be covered in the national pay and mod 2007 agreement and local agreement, the agreements should set out what stuation can be classeda s a 30 min flex situation.

If a DOM wants to alter local aggrement then they should propose it as per IR framework. However they have to stay within the national agreement.
