Breaking news: Postal strike could affect deliveries

Over the last five years we have absorbed almost 50 million OPG hours, I had a update from Royal Mail last week on the reduction in OPG hours. The reduction in OPG hours in 2008/2009 was 9,303,745 of which 71,933 came from the PE postcode area and in turn the peterborough mail centre (PMC) provided 37,786 hours.

18,665 OPG hours from PMC were absorbed during 2005/2006

46,780 OPG hours from PMC were absorbed during 2006/2007

125,121 OPG hours from PMC were absorbed during 2007/2008

Such a magnificent effort for such little reward!!!!

What on cutting jobs are you having a laugh or are you talking from managements side because from where i am standing those hours are peoples jobs and livelyhoods that they pay for food health and education of our kids and just mean even more kids grow up in abject poverty taking even more crap from an uncaring country and then we wonder why the kids turn out bad. you seem to be proud of the hours shed by a certain area is that your and did you have anything to do with those cuts? Some should be ashamed and it is not only the board of royal mail.

The branch sec does his best and does what he thinks is right and come the end of the year nominations will be open again and if yourself or other mbr wants to do the branch sec job then they are free to put in for it.

How ever the branch sec is doing a good job at getting my release problems sorted.

I want a rerun of the election that your buddies spiked......

The branch chairman informed the striking postmen that it was time to go back to working normally... whatever that means....presumably cars on delivery, massively overweight bags, no meal reliefs, free overtime for the love of the Company.....?!

Then he tells them we should trust Royal Mail and that they are to carry out 12 items a minute unagreed prep tests...oh yes, that is what CWU leadership is all about in our neck of the woods......

Lest we forget we have paid our subs for these clowns to lose our allowances, pension entitlements and to get a pay freeze....f****k embarrasing....and don't get me started on bullying and harassment....I suppose we should just trust Royal Mail not to do that either Mr Branch Chairman, should we not?

From all accounts that was why there was a walk out in the first place....and now they are back at work on the back of RM promises...huh!

Big Daz....might have been a bit more effective if the Branch Secretary had not told Processing to keep working...what is it coming to in Eastern Number 5???

And how exactly did I do that from the picket line???

Though obviously as it was unofficial action I was in no way playing an active role in encouraging anyone to not go in to work & I was on the line trying to ensure that nothing that could be seen as illegal was going on. (legal disclaimer)

As it was unofficial action the the CWU and its reps cannot legally be seen to endorse it, unless of course wranglered who has mentioned jollies, thinks the Union should spend thousands even hundreds of thousands on defending an illegal action, not to mention the branch and maybe the national unions funds being sequestered.

I don't like the anti union laws that should have been repealed by now but unfortuantely the Union and its officers and reps have to abide by them or suffer the consequences. That means it asked by members whether or not they should join an unofficial action they cannot say yes "All Out", at this point its up to each individual whether they think there is reason enough for action, and whether they personally can accept the consequences of that action.

Totally right Trueblue.

Though many in the office sympathized with the Delivery members there is a section that find it difficult to support unofficial action. Though these same people will not cross a picket line.

Officially and legally speaking reps should be ensuring that no member can be accused of acting illegally and encouraging others to take unofficial action. All that can be done is to inform why they are out and it's then up to the individual if they cross the line or not.

In the end the delivery members did themselves proud in their conduct and solidarity and have shown that they won't be bullied.
