hehe - don't know now Daz - our DOM is so harassed, I think he is grateful for anything that hits the right slot. I'll check with our rep and see if there is any meeting of minds on the standards (assuming both minds turn up for the meeting)

What is the 1 minute test? we were told you would sort for approx 20 min under the expert eye of our workplace coach who will be released from his duty to enable him to supervise these tests plus obtain his NVQ's and also be responsible for all training, etc in the office, maybe if he gets a girlfriend he might lose interest in his new found power. ls there any official CWU policy on this topic?

Yes, the 1 min test is the offically agreed policy. Local managers ignore it 99 % of the time.

I thought these were individual performance tests and as such not there to bully a whole office into going ever faster if they are to say you must all take a test are they not implying that he suspect that you are all incompetent and as such that a manager that has that confidence in all his staff should deserve nothing more than the contempt of his staff!.

I am under the impression, in my patch at least, that all the managers have been trained to implement new sorting/performance standards regardless of the union....

I would like to bet this will happen nationwide in the next few weeks.....

I also speculate that in the gap between the present and widespread automation, RM will use these so-called "performance" measures to drive out as many full-timers as possible...sacked with little comeback either as it will always look like a fair dismissal...

Dunno what the rate is but last time i was checked i passed by about 3 letters.
I've been on the walk 10 years and i threw off like a humming bird.
I think their ideas of how fast we should work are a bit unrealistic.Its ok for a minute but for 1and a half hours ips and then 2.15 prep you can't keep up that pace.
Then when we get out you have to walk at 10mph :p
Pity managers don't run about or type on their pcs at 30 words a minute.They spend more time wandering around than working.To rub it in we even have a dom support.I'm sure if he worked faster he wouldn't need one.

It is for the manager or workplace coach too train the individual who does not meet the standards as such if a postman has a full contract they cannot be dismissed but a part time postie could but it is up too the manager too provided the training needed too meet those standards!.

we have had a performance manager who does full checks(counting the mail checking times to and from etc) and goes out on delivery.this isnt a random selection of staff as he checks people who work to their time.active union members particulary ones who were on strike.as yet we havent had any feedback from the performance manager but the area rep is checking the valididty of these checks.i personally would want the area rep to say we do not agree with these checks and go into disagreement as it is happening all over the ba area.particulary as we are always on the backfoot at the moment.

1 min check also ask if your being tested to have rep or witness present (takes anther person off duty they hate that)
dont bother with missorts you may need the motivation or even retrained i meen if youv,e been there for 20 yrs how can it take them so long to work out your s**t at sorting
also ask what the agreed rate of sort is ( there is none )
sort if poss that exact amount then just stare at frame dont go over just whistle away to yourslf f**k em

Madelin...take it from me, it is that easy, especially now with the CWU so weak and ineffective....when they come to you, which they inevitably will, make notes on everything said and done...

in my opinion, for what it is worth, to sack as many full time delivery staff as possible...no EVR...not even statutory redundancy...plain and simple, zero cost performance dismissal....
