You couldn't be more right! How, when, not only Young members access our structures, is what the YAC is all about and concentrate most of their energies.
Of course THIS union will feel the benefits for years to come when those Youth are no longer Youth. And further can only help keep THIS union wholly CWU and not just part of any old, other union.
Time will tell or Youth will wear you down just on enthusiasim alone.
I'm just p*ssed that I'm old and grey and have no enthusiasm left, if I was under 30 I would want to be a part too, as it is I've a job to get my a*se out of bed every day
I can understand the bit about " Thatcher's children " and the younger people that have swallowed all that corporate bulls*** & shaftings , Union's are of the 70's etc which RM must love - however maybe , just maybe it would be better if the CWU recruited & organized in this country ! and sold the idea of union representation here !
I get the impression by the CWU flying younger reps to Russia is that the CWU are dealing with arguably irrelevant extremes being used as reality check examples - Communism collapses and it's replaced by too much anarchy in the capitalist system e.g. the mafia's running the countries .
The relevant examples to be used should be horror stories about cowboy firms , casualised / agency working in this country with race to the bottom - low security , people being treated like s**t , poor t's & c's etc - that would sell the idea of trade unionism better ? to the potential reps of the future .

I had no idea that people were being persecuted for being in a Union in NI. I know that Catholics and Protestants have their differences, which often spill out into violence and abuse. But that has nothing to do with Unions, does it?
But just because the YAC are going to other Countries. It doesn't mean that they shouldn't be going to NI, and even trying to make sense of what happens in Britain as a whole.

Well its impossible to be a trainee delegate twice as far as I know and if I did manageto go again that one less place available for somebody who hasent been before.As I said political officer does not have a automatic right of attendance to conference, however there is nothing to stop me putting a motion to the branch to change this.I can not recomend highly enough to reps in the branch who havent been to go to conference and see it all in action. I think its vital as it gives hope that the those at the top can be overuled by those of us lower down. I saw motions get passed that HQ/PEC opposed.
The most exciting part was when a Divisional rep accused Dave Joyce of misleading conference. The DR did have a vallid point in my view, whether or not misleading was the right word is debatable to use as im sure DJ would not have done such a thing deliberatley.
As for the YAC those who will be representing the under 30's are getting elected by middle and older aged people, thst just bonkers. Weve got the over 30's choosing who gets to represent the under 30's

How did you vote wranglered when a sectional cwu committee was asked to vote on suspending a fellow reps credentials without a scrap of any overwhelming evidence, without any investigation, without the rep being asked for a explanation on the issue? All this in the absence of the said rep.
Luckily the branch committe decided to scrap the motion from the sectional committee and investigate the issue that lead to the motion and found no wrongdoing had been committed.

I was not present at that meeting, but you will see from the minutes of the follow-up that I was the only one to raise my disgust in the way you were treated....as I have said before, make sure you realise who your friends are..........

Shop me?, where on earth does not come from? I thought this was a internal union issue?
I note the challenger for ADR and Branch Chair was one of those who proposed or seconded the motion (cant remember if he was proposer or seconder) so that will heavily influence my vote in the branch elections. That and the fact that the current ADR has been invaluable to me with his assitance on various things since I moved into the IR side of Union stuff in 2002. He even got my 1 year reprimand overturned on appeal
As to your question I am unable to reply. You should direct that to the acting branch sec and ask if you havent already done so why collectively the BC voted the way it did.
I do however note that you were not at the meeting on the credentials and will take your word for it that you would not have voted for the motion had you been at the meeting.
