I dont work for RM anymore but haven't they offered you lot any relocation assistance, i'd find it hard to believe they'd just expect you to relocate without ANY sort of help?

My commute is 25miles each way to where i work, i dont moan about it. My previous job was working for NATS(half-owned by the Govt) they closed one of their sites and relocated 50 MILES AWAY, the staff either went with the company or left, thats how its is im afraid?

I have three cars for my own use all (not family cars yes lucky me) but if royal fails desire is to upsticks and move to another area then they should be prepared to pay you the mileage for or until you retire not just three years!!!!

if you travel for 50mls a day you knowingly accepted the job and budgeted for the exspence when accepting the job so not realy the same thing is it
may i just say a typical attitude from some one who's now left or had to go more like perhaps someone tied to a special project ??

Too much, some of these want their nuts scratched for them. In this climate just be glad you've still got a job even in the short term and RM still has the best track record on relocations, time out etc. As usual, comment is restricted to the 'my glass is half empty' or 'i'm entitled' to ever paint a remotely realistic picture. Never had it so good frankly.

The CWU fought for & got those conditions ( admittedly much better than most and there is a minority that naively think that the world/ RM owes them ) - RM didn't give staff them out of the goodness of their hearts and will now stop at nothing to avoid paying those allowances - remember prior to the dispute RM wanted to bin MTSF and replace it with a sensitive but commercial one ( a oxymoron if there ever was )

Also even if people did get RRIS - there will be a few strange "coincidences" thereafter for staff being paid that allowance - a easy way to impress and save money but difficult to prove :hmmmm
don't ever fall for that fake paternalism , with Liverpool in particular , RM would be only too keen to "lose " people and replace them with malleable PT staff . RM tried that with NDC Daventry , the union did recruit and people got cynical about RM , not being all they were cracked up to be .

Come on, both of you. Can't you have a discussion, without resorting to insults?

FmrPOSTIE, We (with the exception of a few idiots) don't expect everything on a plate. Far from it. We work hard for our wages, and simply want to be treated fairly.

BELIAL, I know that it's insulting, when people make comments like FmrPOSTIE's. But is there really any need to descend to his level?

As for the commuting problems: The part timers, will struggle with the cost of commuting, once the excess mileage allowance runs out in 3 years. There are also, some people who can't drive. Which means that they would have to find the money to learn, as well as buying a car or motorbike. And what about those who aren't medically fit to drive?
A tiny minority I know. But they are some. :hmmmm

And as for Public Transport: You get NO excess mileage allowance for using Public Transport. So they would have to find the full amount themselves.

If RM was to offer EVR to anyone who couldn't manage to Commute. Then that would be a totally different prospect. But the fact is, that they are counting on people leaving, because they can't get there. It's cheaper than giving EVR, or breaking with tradition, and making people redundant. :hmmmm

How does one pay for a car et al and petrol for a 50 mile round trip when they earn £262 a week? Are you living on pluto?

Oh, the age old "if you dont like it leave" argument. What next? Work for 48 hours for minimum wage and travel 100 miles a day and if you dont like it leave.

Mods, can you ban him from the boards please.

No - we live in a society that allows free speech we can't ban him or anyone just because we don't like or agree with what they say.

Now If they break the rules repeatedly and ignore any warning issued then they will at first be issued a temporary ban and then if the situation does not improve a Permanent ban. Anyone see DogBait around lately.

If you don't like what someone says and you can't respond without calling them names then add them as a foe in youir control panel and you wont have to read them.

Anyone who has replied with an insult in this thread is has had their post amended or deleted This is a forum for ADULTS its not a PLAYGROUND where you can call people names just because they have a different view. Warnings will be issued in future if insults are not removed on request - repeated insults will result in a Temporary Ban.

don't fall for the bait if someone plays Agent Provocateur - there's Civil Servants / Government / part Government employees that would love to have the conditions that the CWU got over the years rather than accept what the PCS got for their members .

I understand frmPostie saying people should leave if they don't like it, but I think it's unfair that women who work 4 hours an evening should be forced to leave. Who in their right mind would travel 250 miles a week for a part time job?

Which is more logical?

A: Mail collected from city - taken to mail centre in city - delivered to customers in city
B: Mail collected from city - taken on a 50 mile round trip - delivered to customers in city

Why did you leave then - did you run or were you pushed - and as for a 50 mile commute if you enjoy it become a white van man.
