I have to drop pouches out as a runaround duty and now if the pouches aren't weighed and recorded I tell my Line-o, I'm not taking them out!!!!!!!
Also had a classic this morning, one of my posties came up to me because he recieved a letter because he didn't weigh his bags yesterday, his reasons, "I didn't weigh them because I forgot because i was in a bit of a rush!" This bloke goes out and delivers a bag between the ips and the missort retrieval i.e between 7am and 8am and I've got to persuade senior men like this to do the job properly!!!!!
WHAT A C***!!!!!!!!!
We get that at our place, well sort off,we're not allowed to go out and nick a bit now,but some of them tie up early ready for the woooosh out.
Sometimes we've been done by walksorted bundles, their attitude is ,oh well,i'll just work from 2 bundles then.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been. My BFF Clash The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
Snatch mate we all have them, you know what annoys me the most, what more do they want they will finish early anyway ,but oh no not happy with making 1-2 hours a day they want even more .You cant win mate senior men the WORST for it (21 years myself) dont end up falling out it aint worth it, at the end of the day we all have to work together BUT YOU WILL HAVE YOUR MOMENT,im a great believer in what goes round comes round.
I have 2 double pouch boxes on my delivery so with a pouch on my bike i can have 5 bags a day with out any problems. This also alows me to keep the weight down.
I'm on a tradin est del so no bags/pouches to del but i do accelerate 1 postie out and if his bags are overweight i wont lift em, might sound a bit anal but when i started the duty his bags were so heavy they broke there handles!! now, his walk is smaller just to cope with the amount of bags (average 8 bags a day!)
If you think they can get away with it then they can! fight for your rights!!
Staff do weigh thier pouches but they are still over weight, they sure don't use the pouch matrix, the manager says the matrix is just a guidline which we all know is a load of bull. He tells everyone to record their pouch weights as it is a requirment but he tells them to put anything down as long as it is recorded.
At our office pouches are rarely, if ever, weighed by either the staff or managers. I myself try to make sure that my pouches are not overweight as it is not fair to expect the drivers to carry more weight than they should. The last time anyone saw a manager weigh a bag was when one of our postwomen had an accident in the yard outside the office and two managers brought her bag in, weighted it and actually cheered with joy when they found it was over 16kg!

Tommo is right. If we dont get a YES vote it won't be that we'll be in the s**t, it'll be just the depth that varies. Vote YES to IA and get us out of it.

There is a Legal requirement for weighing delivery bags " Manual Handling Regulations 1992."
If your office or spdo does not have scales contact your Line Manager first if he does not do anything contact your CWU Area safety Rep.
Delivery bags should not only be weighed but there must be a record kept of this activity for visiting EHS Officers
Dont put your self at risk of injury.
If you dont get any response from the above contact your local District Council EHS Department and make a formal complaint.
I had to go in with one of the lads for a stage warning, he had 3 absences but 2 were AOD's the manager used his head a bit and discounted 1 of the AOD's but counted 1 of them this was because the lad didnt weigh his pouches and he had no info to confirm the reason of the AOD ( it was due to an overweight bag ) anyway the lad got off with the warning, but i think he counted the bag weighing incident for his benefit, so to get all the lads weighing their bags.
moral of the story is, weigh your bags, it could be to your advantage.
