We have the new sorting frames with the pink 1st class sorting frame for letters, and the others in blue/yellow.

As far as I can tell, the agreement states that "1c and parcels only" are to be delivered on the 50/50 "light" half or the "light" job of the pods.

In our office second class and DSA items are arriving in the sequenced tray for the light job (with no 1c letter for that address), second class and DSA letters and flats are being sorted into the pink first class only sorting frame and second class and DSA items are being sorted into the frame of the light job in empty slots with no already existing 1st class items.

Various staff are insisting that if these second class and DSA items (which by my count today are outnumbering the first class letters in the frame 2 or 3 to 1) have been put into the sequenced tray or into the 1st class pigeon hole in the letter sorting frame, then they must be delivered that day. This multiplies the attendance calls for letters on the light job by 2 or 3 which significantly increases the delivery time of that job and in our office is clearly causing jobs to bring back mail due to lack of time unnecessarily.

As far as I can tell, the agreement specifically states "1c and parcels only" for the light job and for Saturdays.

Can someone here clear this up for me please?
Forget 1C. The agreement is that whatever is due delivery on the day is what goes. Then add all the other tasks we have to do these days. You may hear talk of 'coincidental' mail. That's the same as the due mail. The non-core work, what you are refering to as the light work, may well contain non !C items such as DSA that has triggered the DTS because it is due delivery.

The majority of the traffic sent to DO's is sorted mechanically. The computer has been programmed to release the correct traffic for the days work. The traffic should arrive with labels indicating what it is.

There maybe manually sorted items that arrive which are not due delivery.

If the IPS is incorrect that's where things start to go wrong. If the IPS plan is not carried out correctly individual walks will not be able to identify the due mail. However you may notice that non 1C items have other items such as T48's waiting delivery. The system isn't perfect.

Just do your best. That's all you can do.

You may want to look at what the CWU agreed about the unaddressed mail too. It should all be prepped for Monday. Then it is to be delivered as 70% Monday on the core duties, 70% Tuesday on the core duties.

There a 4 types of DSA. There's 1C DSA which is very rare, when it does appear it messes up the figures as the machines can't detect that it's 1C. There are also 2 day, 3 day and 5 day DSA variants.

Apparently the 2nd class you get is "end of life" and has to be delivered on that day.

Seems there are varying methods across the country in typical RM style. We seemed to start with doing all the due DSA, NHS, blind, international and quickly these started becoming hidden as the call rates make it even more impossible. As for coincidental mail, were supposed to put in all the above and then check every single other letter against what's in the frame in case there's mail due? That would mean getting out of the office with massively shortened delivery time.

Basically any mail which the CSS machine has released is due for delivery. The DTS algorithm works out what DSA and 2C should be released for a given walk on a given day.

If it's not first class, it doesn't go, we daily have 2 trays full of mail left under the frame for the light side for tomorrow.

As soon as the tests fail then that will stop.

I reckon there'll be a massive surge in test letters being sent, there's going to be a good few DOs getting right bollockings from higher up.

We have enough trouble delivering the first class and Tracked that is due for delivery.
If we have to start mithering with DTS stuff it will still fail.

We still get buddy trays of flats. Anything that isn't first class gets piled on top of them and they sit under the frame until the next day.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

If the DTS has released it then IT IS DUE for delivery. We only sort flats down to office level.

Doesn't matter, it's going under the frame.

Lots of things are DUE for delivery.
The reality is they aren't all going to get delivered.
DTS released by an algorithm isn't high on the list of priorities.
