That's easy, if it's that bad then leave. Anyone who requires medication, prescription or otherwise, in order to manage to cope is really do themselves and their colleagues a great disservice. I've had several jobs in my time and believe me this is the best I've ever had. Get yourself out there and give something else a try noone and nothing is more important to you than yourself so why endure it!DBur42 wrote:Just wondering how other Postal Workers get through their day & deal with all the changes Royal Fail are forcing on us :cfo .

So what you're saying is that 25% of RM workforce should leave every year whenever they suffer from depression* 1 in 4 British adults experience at least one diagnosable mental health problem in any one year, and one in six experiences this at any given time.

In most cases, it's the bullying and incompetence of the management that cause all the mental illnesses I've seen so before you start spouting off about 'if you don't like it you can leave' you should have a think about the causes.

In most cases, it's the bullying and incompetence of the management that cause all the mental illnesses I've seen so before you start spouting off about 'if you don't like it you can leave' you should have a think about the causes.
Depression is not the only, or most common form, of Mental Health Problem. The most common are generally self-esteem related and most forms can be treated using Cognitive Behavioural Therapies. Those who are in fact given drug medication for the depression of which you speak would also be advised to look at and change certain activities, eating habits etc. If the root cause of their depression is their job, (more likely a major contributor than a sole cause), then a job change would be a recommended course of action. If the low moods are as sporadic as you suggest then that's not depression as such and much better fixed by talking to someone positively, (not negatively on a Forum).
Regardless of those facts those who are continuing to put themselves through hell in a job they dislike for bosses and a company they hate and with conditions that make them ill, should really leave, not self-medicate and stay!

I think this started out as a light hearted chat but has gone all seri arse. All josb are crap now cos all bosses are tozzers and want FREE work whilst they take all the money. No point in leaving as same everywhere.

Very true so lets have a sing song:
Some things at Royal Mail are bad,
They can really make you mad,
The tozzers just make you swear and curse,
When you're sweating off your gristle,
Don't grumble,
Give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best.
And...
Always look on the bright side of life.
[whistle]
Always look on the light side of life.
[whistle]
If your DOM seems jolly rotten,
There's something you've forgotten,
And that's to aim your fist and take a swing.
When you go in the bog for dumps,
Don't be moody chumps.
Just grab your pouch bag and whistle that the thing.
And...
Always look on the bright side of life.
[whistle]
Always look on the right side of life,
[whistle]
for our rounds are quite absurd
And home is the final word.
You must always face the PHG with a bow.
Forget about your specials.
Boot the DOM right in the testicles.
Enjoy it. It's your last chance, anyhow.
So,...
Always look on the bright side of death,
[whistle]
Just before you draw your terminal breath.
[whistle]
Royal Mail’s a piece of s**t,
When you look at it.
Corzier’s a laugh and Leightons a knob it's true.
You'll see it's all a show.
Lets cheer when they go.
Just remember that the last laugh is just for you.
And...
Always look on the bright side of life.
Always look on the right side of life.
[whistle]
Always look on the bright side of life!
[whistle]
Always look on the bright side of life!
[whistle]
Always look on the bright side of life!
[whistle]
Always look on the bright side of life!
[whistle]
Always look on the bright side of life!
[whistle]
Always look on the bright side of life!
[whistle]
Always look on the bright side of life!
[whistle]
Always look on the bright side of life!
[whistle]
Repeat to fade...

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

In my case, Work wasn't the cause, or even a significant contribuitary factor. At least at first, anyway. But as others have already pointed out: If you're already depressed. Then the problems we are coping with at RM, certainly don't help. Particularly, when you have insensitive Managers. Giving you grief, when they know you are already down.Himaggen wrote:No that's what you're saying.disgruntledpostie1 wrote:Himaggen wrote:That's easy, if it's that bad then leave. I happen to like my Job. Despite what some would have us believe: We provide an important service to the public. I intend to keep my Job for as long as I can.

You know your right sometimes its not the job but life the job just adds to the sadness that you feel, managers are in a position that they don't want to be in,they don't know how to handle it so they make our life a living hell,we have the most smarmy DOM who thinks he is the dogs n--ts, he takes great delight in staffs sadness but can i make a little suggestion try to keep smiling because i now know it monks him off when we all keep singing and smiling,we have more staff off on long term sick with stress and depression now than at any time before and you know he can't get any help from most the staff and to see him stamp his feet like a 2 year old is so entertaining. He now has to earn his money because the good will has left the building along with elvis and you know what we can't wait until christmas because life ain't gonna get any better for the managers,we have lost our O/T so people have got use to not having the money.
Think on everybody.
