Fingers crossed!!!!daveyeff wrote: ↑05 Nov 2023, 15:25if they are, and we've been told they are, off management AND union, then it would stand to reason there's got to be redundancies around the corner. where is the extra work going to come from?.....other duties obviously. exactly as Mark Baulch said would happen when he visited our office about 5 or 6 years ago.

I can’t see redundancies being necessary in delivery. There is a massive turnover of staff right now.

Short term yes - but in the long run - I'm not entirely convinced. Maybe there will be less Parcel force drivers as we accept more of their parcels into our network? But whilst many staff are leaving RM now, both older staff and newbies, the company still believes that we are the best paid in the industry and it knows that it can make bigger profits with less staff on less money. It's always been the boards wet dream to sell off some of these lucrative RM sites and have the company running as a glorified courier company that still picks up a shedload of revenue from the letters business as well. Royal Mail don't seem particularly bothered about a high turnover as its the norm at Amazon (a company that RM are trying to copy as they believe that it is the way to compete), and in the areas where recruitment is an issue RM seem to be more than happy to let the USO die a slow death. It's been happening ever since they made record profits after Covid. Oddly enough, the business and even Dave Ward agree to another day off the USO which would also mean less outdoor delivery jobs!!
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
