Re: Today it starts
I have noticed a shift in management position towards retention of existing staff, a couple of our guys have been pushing for a change of attendance pattern for a year but managers have been telling them no chance, now suddenly it's give them anything just to keep them in post.
The power has shifted and they're panicking not just about retention now but what might happen next year with later starts, it's up to us to exploit it as much as we can.

Maybe they've finally realised they need us more than we need them.

There has definitely been this shift in our office too.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑28 Sep 2023, 21:48I have noticed a shift in management position towards retention of existing staff, a couple of our guys have been pushing for a change of attendance pattern for a year but managers have been telling them no chance, now suddenly it's give them anything just to keep them in post.

Job share is the in thing rather then letting staff go.

With the sheer volume of people leaving and the fact they can’t recruit anyone because those new contracts are so bad , we’d be mad to not try and soften that particular blow as much as possible.
I do know that lots more in my office and others I’ve been in will leave if their finsh times go past 4 , myself included.

I wonder how many have left this week or next week after the lump sum is in the bankPidleypoo wrote: ↑29 Sep 2023, 16:58Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑28 Sep 2023, 21:48I have noticed a shift in management position towards retention of existing staff, a couple of our guys have been pushing for a change of attendance pattern for a year but managers have been telling them no chance, now suddenly it's give them anything just to keep them in post.

The two nearest DOs to us 6 put their notice in and 4 at the other office the morning after the money was in the bank. We'll done RM and CWU.qwerty2 wrote: ↑29 Sep 2023, 18:58I wonder how many have left this week or next week after the lump sum is in the bankPidleypoo wrote: ↑29 Sep 2023, 16:58Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑28 Sep 2023, 21:48I have noticed a shift in management position towards retention of existing staff, a couple of our guys have been pushing for a change of attendance pattern for a year but managers have been telling them no chance, now suddenly it's give them anything just to keep them in post.

An extra £1000 in the bank isn’t enough to retire on. They were obviously going to leave anyway.

They need to introduce Tracked 96 because at this rate not even the Tracked + Specials alone will clear come November. We're already doing alternate day delivery and next month they're tacking another third of a duty onto the frame.
The company's press release earlier in the month mentioned only 85,000 will be on delivery this Christmas, which implies probably double that have jumped ship based on previously mentioned numbers. Of course, by the time we get there it'll be even less.
The machine stops.

Just the same old s**t at our office. Think we're doing a better job of retaining the new starters than the managers are at the minute with them dumbing them on four days worth of mail and us just being straight up honest with them.

Re: Today it starts
Ive sort of become almost a therapist for a couple of very young new recruits in my office. The sh** theyve had to put up with since joining is quite remarkable; being moved almost daily and seemingly always onto jobs they with days worth of mail in the frame. Theres been tears and walkouts a few times and they now come and find me on a morning when stress and despair levels become too much.Shadedpostie wrote: ↑01 Oct 2023, 11:06Just the same old s**t at our office. Ive had a few quiet chats with our manager along the lines of “you need to look after these two a little bit else they just wont stick around much longer” but its not achieved much.
I find myself torn between trying to help them and wanting them to stick it through whilst simultaneously desperate to advice them to JUST LEAVE NOW!!! Things are not gonna get any better!

We are not paid agony aunt's. If they don't like it, leave. They've got nothing to lose and can go somewhere else with their integrity and sanity still intact.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Indeed.
People in all functions should be watching what happens to Supernummeries in MCs and soon Network/Distribution.
This is the catalyst issue across the board.
