Just accept you are not respected or valued and just pick up your pay every Friday. This will inevitably be monthly soon but in the meantime get to grips with the fact the higher power could not give two shiny shites about you or anyone other than the shareholder.

Allowing people to start or finish earlier for the same pay (potentially doing less work) just because they have commitments outside of work will cause conflicts with the ones that don't.

With the mail and parcels arriving later the idea of starting early and finishing early is going away.

Just trying to think of some ideas:
  • If it is just the need to pick up your child from school and get them safely home to someone waiting there... could you agree a break/gap in the work day to do this?
  • If you need to pick up and also look after your child until your wife/husband/partner returns from their work... could you take a gap in the day and pick up the delivery again later in the evening? More people are at home later on and you could potentially clear a lot of the oversize and packets on the first attempt. Plus in the hotter weather it's like a Spanish siesta and plays to what RM want: staff delivering later into the evening.
If you have a park and loop partner then it is obviously tricky to manage but apart from specials you have the whole day to clear everything else. You may have to leave the office with your partner driving the van and you driving your car and parking your car on a street you'll get to later in the day so it's nearby at that point. Your partner may have to drop the van back to your house and get a lift back to the office etc. Or maybe they parked at your house in the morning, their car is already there, you commuted in together and they save a bit of petrol for this way of working. Maybe you can get a folding bicycle in the back of the van and use that to get you get back home before your partner come round later with the van and you run them back to the office. Or maybe you agree to simply both cut off at a certain time, both return to the office and you, as the one needing to do the school run go back back out later and finish up.

Of course this may not work for some but you should probably start thinking about what could work - changing how you tie up and the order of the loops so it can work better. If you have to leave earlier then your partner may have to do both sides of a loop on their own that was previously shared but they would leave some of their bags and you do both sides on the later loops now to share it out. Maybe it's a non-starter for some but who knows...for others it may be possible.

Can't see that working for many reasons but the main one would be timed tracked delivery. At the moment the customer is given a 4hr delivery slot and it's not really enforced, I expect that 4hr to come down drastically and questions asked if the target time is not met

Maybe true - but you have to think up ways, explore options, and state "what ifs" so you can then dismiss them.

The email that customers get has an asterisk saying it's only an estimate though ("*Please be aware any time or date shown is not a guarantee.").

Impossible to do? I turn up on time and leave on time. It isn’t any more difficult than it was in the past, but you don’t care anyway as you are leaving right? What new job are you moving on to, out of interest?

There will be no family friendly hours for school pick ups you'll have to use after school facilities and pay like the rest of society,a guy in our place has just been refused family friendly and his child has a disability,so anyone who thinks royal mail will do it for school pick ups are sadly delusional, you have 8 months to find another job or sort out child care, they want you to leave for free its all in the master plan.
