i dont mind knocking your employer if you actually have some facts to base it on.not making up your own to suit your sad little agendas of running it into the ground.Irony is if your all so disillusioned that you have to fabricate stuff to try to drag everyone else down to your petty level instead of simply resigning.End of problem...
yes i know yet again this is going to go way over all your selective hearing heads, and your going to AGAIN carp on about staying to improving the job.but i hold out hope that someone else reading will use there own brains.

on such a sensitive issue to some of our own work mates let alone to the family of the dead least you lot could do would be to discuss or comment on facts not that you hope royal mail are to blame

Why do you do it?? Just stick to one ID or if you really want to make us believe you're someone else then at least you could learn to spell and change your style of typing. :cuppa

Disregarding all the prevous posts, I can only restate that a news item like this should NEVER be set to invite comments. It should have been locked TBT.

As to be expected, its full of the usual garbage now and I only hope that the families of those involved don't stumble upon it.

You will find no forum/newspaper/media source in the land that allows comment on stories like this. It is disrespectful and unprofessonal to allow comment on something this serious and I still don't believe it has been left open! If we MUST have stories like this posted on here, at least have the decency to lock them - this is going TOO far.

First of all: you are right about it being insensitive and disrespectful to comment on a story like this without having the facts. But, Locking the Thread would have made no difference, as someone else would have started another one anyway.

Secondly (and the reason that I hadn't commented until now): It is hard to contradict the people making accusations, as we all know that some evidence can be inadmissable. The ONLY people who know what happened, are those who were involved.

I feel very sorry for everyone involved. Not just the victim and the manager, but the passenger and the witness. It was a terrible accident, and something which will probably haunt them for years to come.

I know that this will be an unpopular sentiment. But considering that the Court decided that it was an Accident, we should leave the manager alone now. He will have to live with the consequences of his mistake for the rest of his life. That is something that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy!

Just because he has been cleared of wrongdoing, doesn't alter the fact that he has taken someone's life. He, like so many before him, will no doubt blame himself. Regardless of wether there was anything he could have done to prevent it or not. And that is not an easy thing to have to live with.

The subject of the comments that followed is not the issue, its the fact that the story (by being left open) invited comment.

Theres nothing wrong in discussing whether training is adequate enough, in a new thread in its own right, but to post this story unlocked is insensitive and should not have happened. Some stories are better left closed and this is one example. It just encourages members to use the story as a reference point.

If I wanted to raise the issue of training, I certainly wouldn't be so unfeeling, given that this poor man died, of discussing it under a story like this.

Can't find an icon for 'thumbs down' but this thread definately merits one.

We already covered the alleged lack of training, when the accident first hit the Headlines. I must admit, that I was one of the ones discussing it at the time. The problem was, that immediately after the accident, Refresher Courses were given to managers with HGV Licences. At least where I work, anyway.

The logical conclusion, was that it was what had gone wrong in this case. However, the Judge has cleared him. Therefore, he must have had his training up to date. Just because there is a problem elsewhere, doesn't mean that it exists with EVERY manager.

The Training situation did need discussing, in order to prevent any accidents being caused by the lack of it. But I was wrong to assume that it was a contributary factor in this case. Now he has been cleared, he needs reassurance, support, and (if you are Religious) Prayers. Just as everyone else involved does.

[quote="cantypeANDSHOUTS"]
the very fact that after this accident royal mail insisted on refresher coarses shows me that h&s is paramount in the evil royal mails mind.

IF H &S were paramount in evil Royal Mails mind, refresher courses would have been carried out BEFORE any accidents happened.

H & S is supposed to be pro-actictive NOT re-active to possible accident scenarios. H & S investigates all work accidents, and if THAT accident is not covered by H & S legislation, NEW legislation is introduced to reduce/eliminate the possibility of that type of accident occuring again.

Clearly guidance was in place before the tragic accident that happened in this thread, so Royal Mail ONLY brought in refresher courses AFTER the accident, therefore were partly to blame for the accident occurring.

Taking your points into consideration I have flagged this up to POSTMAN and he can lock if he so wishes. I did not lock it when I posted it because people could have passed messages of condolence to the 2 families involved. Some indeed did this, however some on both side of this thread have erred by being insensitive and, abusive to other points of view and in one case using characters in place of swear words. After all we are mainly adults on here unfortunately a visitor viewing this thread would not think so.

Yes, and you no doubt would have expected a news blackout after that accident in the Alma Tunnel, Paris a few years ago, far too tragic an event for any of us to be expected to possibly comment upon. In that instant the interest of the public was disrespectful in the extreme and the coverage by the press unprofessional beyond belief. But human nature is such that these matters are of interest to many people and the issue won't rest until the truth comes out whether in our lifetimes or not. And what about the deaths of all those service personnel in Iraq over the last few years, is that too tragic an issue for us to comment on ?

i disagree .you have to identify a problem before you remedy it.clearly their was no need until the strike/accident for refresher courses for managers .again it wouldn't be called an accident if royal mail had failed to provide something lawfully require.its quite within proper lines to expect someone with a current and valid hgv licence to be able to drive safely a hgv.no matter how much you long for it you cant blame royal mail
So no-one in Royal Mail before the accident thought it responsible to have refresher courses, afterwards thought it responsible to give refresher courses for drivers. What was the criteria that invoked having to go on a refresher course? Was it, if the driver had not been driving that type of vehicle for a specified period, or was it a blanket refresher course for anyone not usually driving HGV?

Just to carry this on and for once I am supporting cantypeANDSHOUTS one of our Managers had a LGV licence which he had not used for about 10 years, he was sent on a refresher course to a professional driving school in case he was going to be used. So our Area Manager got it right, hope all the others did.

News blackout - NO. What isn't right is comments following a story like this. You won't find anywhere that allows that - for good reason. Again, if it needs discussing then fine, start a thread for that but not BELOW a story where a man was killed - its insensitive in the extreme!
