Is it going to get really that bad folks????? do you not think that there could be worse jobs out there? I think its hard to find a job that pays us Approx basic of £17.500 k (approx without door to doors etc) it is really hard, shop workers only get about just over min wage, so unless we are qualified in some field or can afford to take a cut in wages its really tough. Any ideas?

If you do different walks regularly there are things which can benefit your knowledge ie delivery drivers

Yea, good point. But if not going to be staying in same town/city be different. Good point anyhow.

A lot of our drivers do "the Knowledge" to become taxi drivers. Others have taken VR/EVR and got jobs
as paramedics, police officers, bus drivers, teaching assistants, nurses, court ushers, postroom staff, messengers, and security guards.
I suppose there are more job opportunities in London though.

They are sending out letters to staff in my MC next week apparently.
Don't know if it's a national thing - might depend on where you are.

I think you're right there DP. Last time they did a VR/EVR trawl two years ago they couldn't get
enough volunteers. This time they'll be queuing up.

I keep hearing about posties being stitch up, my mate was stitch up too, the manager pet who had various stages warning, made a 5 page statement about it.

The is life outside royal mail, I use to be quite scared about losing the job, as its difficult for a disabled person to get work, but I come to the conclusion that I much rather work for romec scrubbing toilets and emptying bins then put up with the shite at RM. I am seriously thinking of saying sod it and walking out, really tempted at whistle blowing too. Sigh, one can dream

unfair attendance procedure

Post by mitzi »

what p****s me off most about the irregular attenders procedure is the fact that both mail centres and delivery offices have the same procedure. if you feel ill and have to go and walk the streets for 3.5 hours in the rain it is a world away from sitting on your arse in a nice warm mail centre.
does anyone else think delivery office staff are unfairly penalised by this procedure?

If there is a EVR / VR package on offer, how much would people get roughly. Just asking.

I've never worked in an MC, but I can tell you, apart from those who work in the office, we don't get a chance to sit down in the warm for long in RDCs either. There are quite a few FLT and Scud duties, but mostly on the Bays, where it is freezing in the Winter! And you're on and off the equipment regularly to deal with dangerous Cages, strap Trailers (while loading/unloading), and check Postcodes to find out where a particular Cage is going when the Cage Card falls off.

However, this working in other Offices bit of the Agreement, means that they could get you light Duties in an MC if neccessary. So that should help.

A large proportion of the Sick Absences where I work, are due to injuries, stress and depression. Obviously, there are still quite a few times when people get normal illnesses.

But considering that they even pressurise injured Staff to return to work, I doubt that it will make much difference where you work. For example, one of my Collegues was injured in an accident at Work, and was pestered to return to Work before he had recovered. This was dispite being told at the Hospital, to rest for a few weeks (4 if I remember rightly), before doing light duties. He was even told that he must attend an interview at Work, to determine why he wasn't returning to Work sooner!

Quite frankly, RM couldn't care less about our Health. They just want us in, and working, dispite any injuries or illnesses!

Everyone knows who the professional skivvers are, one's with "good doctors ", accident claimers and malingerers are be it DO , Distribution or Rm's human zoo's & "factories" -problem is RM go on percentages and Stalinist Directives , some are guilty , many are not -it's literally that cynical and brutal even as everyone is tarred with the same brush .

It's interesting to see who RM are quite happy to turn a blind eye to with too literal and autocratic ,boneheaded & bloated diversity and B&H procedures which were borne out of the usual blind panic and crisises that RM have continually lurched from for as long as I can remember .
