I firmly believe it can no longer be a question of choice but a legislative move to compel people from the start of employment to save for retirement at a high enough level to sustain a pension to an age based on the average life expectancy.

And that extra ability to save will come from where?...Higher wage levels?...not without the kind of fight that random is talking about and that sadly seems beyond most.
It's not simply an unwillingness to save for the future...it's also an inability in a lot of cases,especially in those far closer to the minimum wage level than we are.
Whether we fight to protect the pensions we have or fight for a decent wage for all to enable us to save more for our retirement the fight is the same...and against the same people....i know...more cliches.

Believe me I have thought long and hard about the ability to pay and of course there would still have to be some form of top up for those unfortunates who cannot work. There has always been that element who cannot work, to us who have spent a lifetime working it's a breeze but for some it is not and we should take care of them. No matter what wages are paid there MUST be a contribution to the future, it must be made clear for what purpose it is being raised because people should realise its importance. I realise that it means sacrifice but if the alternative is an old age in poverty then it is a small price to pay.

More clichés i know but “When injustice becomes LAW rebellion becomes DUTY!" Another cliche is the rich get richer and the poor get poorer and that is a truth we as workers live with every day! the question has to be what side are you all on, the bosses like some here on RMC or working people be they your educators, parents or grandparents, peers or children? Our struggle has lasted for thousands of years and has always failed because we have never learnt that we have the power but would rather act like sheep and be told what to think and do because we know no better. Education, Organisation, EMANCIPATION has to be our goal.

Well they are undoubtedly worthy aims random but are they attainable. Look around you in the workplace do you see the stuff of rebellion? I don't. Apart from the desire to change things for the better, there must be a workable alternative to what there is, as flawed as it is.

I think we should make the rich work instead of feeding of our labour and then gender just does not come in to it. After all we are all in this together are we not?

For me the only problem is the crooks at the top. When you have so much owned by so few, the ONLY way they hold on to it is by making decent workers fight amongst themselves. A tactic we know well as workers called divide and conquer and that the elite have been playing for thousands of years. I am a person and if another person lives longer than me then good luck to them irrespective of gender, but to allow the elite to profit as they do from workers whilst they sit in their big houses having never done a days "true graft" other than stealing from working people i just can’t except that.
