whatever the outcome of this years negotiations you can bet that we will have sacrificed some sort of conditions that make the job just about bearable , as far back as i could remember we have always gave up sme sort of financial incentive this has now been exhausted all that is left to hand back is our conditions. 2.5% with strings will be the real deal regardless of how our union or RM put it forward.we had RM on the ropes early August the government have stepped in and i dread to think what conditions i'll be working under this time next year![/i][/quote]

Why there is no oppostion from CWU on this late start subject? No one want this dmn late start and its not working but management is going through it and management is pushing it all the way . Why going on delivery .. only reason was to early start and early finish.

Now, for once in my life I hope I'm wrong here but with the spread of people we have visiting this site I'm hoping that the rumour I just heard can be laid to rest as another piece of RM propaganda . . . . . . "apparently" some time ago RM changed all of it's transporting flight times to allow for the later starts and the connecting of mails, and at this time the CWU made no objections (perhaps they hadn't seen the bigger picture). We have now reached the point when these changes take effect and because we didn't object at the beginning we can't object now, so the CWU can't actually stop these changes even if they really wanted to. . . . . . please someone, shoot this rumour down

Not sure about the CWU opposition and if they did or didnt but flight times were changed to cheaper slots so it all comes down to pounds shillings and pence no-one should be surprised at that!!

Although on leave this week - until Monday - like the hero that I am - I have just popped into my orifice! I have received sooo many worried 'phone calls - re rumours from members - that I thought that an appearance was warranted. We are a delivery office of just short of 100 - 70 odd being present - at any one time - as we are on 5 weeks on - 1 week off system!

Apart from 2 or 3 - who actually spoke to me - the vast majority were all tear a&sing around - eyes glazed or panic stricken - as we have a 'significantly earlier finish' - on a Saturday.

We can shout & rave - about 'Little & Large' being our sworn enemies - but the most sinister enemy - is still 'The Enemy Within'! The delivery postie is his own worst enemy! I'm sure it has been mentioned 1000's of times on here - but delivery reps are - where fighting duty cuts are concerned - unless their members SLOW DOWN & DO THE JOB PROPERLY!

I was disappointed with our record on the strike - but we had a rush of new entrants in the run up to the 'call'! 7 to 10 came in - on each occasion!

A little ironic twist - was that one of the healed abrasions - non CWU member - who listened to 'Stand by me - & I'll stand by you' promises - has just been sacked for gross inefficiency.

It is a great pity - that I was covering 'area' & then on leave - as I would still have spoken - down - for him!

At my old delivery office,it was the same people rushing about to be first finished and then moan that more work is being put on their deliveries.

Slow down and do it properly.

We started this on a Voluntary basis at my DO this week and the office is in a mire (or at least I know my section is). We are an office of 300 or thereabouts and there is more backlog waiting to go out then there was at any point during the strikes. The hardest thing to get people to accept is that if the bosses want you to stay on IPS stay on it. They cannot (but they will try) to make you work beyond your contracted hours. Friday I did not leave the office till late and had to leave 2 bags in the office. On the round I was at my most chilled out for weeks.

One word of warning though, if you do cut off make sure you know what your finish time is going to be, taking into account MRs and Travelling time back, and do not finish any earlier. Some of the blokes did not finish till 4.00pm .

Good call Inspector.... The Delivery rep has a hard job with all the newbies in and a lack of knowledge of a union...

I will say its a thankless task with somepeople and your never win or make em all happy but this you know thru your time...

As for the bloke who got the boot... SHAME!!! Should of listened shouldnt he!!!

This is indeed a formidable weapon that is being used at and more office's throughout the system and so it should be done the proper way throughout the year,I know one has to forgo early finishes,but one has to look further ahead dont be tunnel visioned.Yes TBT you are correct more backlog than any strike day,it has caused no end of problems at Watford for the managers.

By the time you're half way around, you're boiling hot, your feet ache and you're sweating like a boxer. I blame the DOM we had last October who wanted brownie points for his promotion, which he subsequently got, a rep who didn't like the idea of postmen finishing earlier than drivers (i.e. him) because they were 05.30 starts and the postmen were 05.00 and a handful of drunks who couldn't get out of bed after a good nights drinking, and a load of other people who didn't have the wit to realise they were voting for a £12 pay cut. Of course plenty of them are sorry now, but once the rep told them later starts were coming in nationally, and they believed him despite his track record, it was a done deal.

The last film I saw was about H & S - it was the usual crap - when I mentioned that we didnt have some of the safety features in place - I was told we didn't need them - now whether that was because we were expendable .......... . I don't recall seeing a film about later starts - but then I am not always in the WTL - is it recent?

The later starts here would go from 0500 to 0630 and would trigger a repick apart from the changes in geo route - that may well mean people would be changing duty from an "early" start to a "later" start and that's why I asked about the Grandad allowance.
