Wow ! Must be some really monster walks out there :whistle

If i can give my experience... :nervous

We do 6X40 minute loops.
Average loop would be 3 medium sized bundles and 4-5 packets.
So for the 2 deliveries that would be 36 bundles and 45-50 packets.
Not monster walks...around 600-650 calls.
I certainly wouldn't carry 3 bundles and 4-5 packets any more.
If a loop only has 1 bundle and no packets it's too small a loop in the same way that if you're dragging round a fully laden trolley the loops are too big.
Sometimes the geography means you have to have one or two small loops but not a whole delivery.
If deliveries are planned as appears to be the case in Wolverhampton with very small loops the inefficiency in constantly stopping and starting will eventually become a management issue.
It will also encourage the kind of practices that we as a union are trying to move away from.
Absorption will also be a major issue.
A balance is needed, loops that need a trolley but do not overload the trolley are the key.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Seems a more realistic assessment of number of bundles & packets.
Can see the argument for use of trolleys in a ideal world of reasonable management & effective union & members.
But that does not exist everywhere (or many places at all) so I can't see why not after a duty has been designed & agreed a pair can't reconfigure the duty to where they only carry a bundle each loop if the duty can be done in the time given & the duty holders feel less exhausted end of shift doing it that way.
Lock the pouches away to stop temptation for anything more.
This ain't no baseball game, you get only one chance and you blew it.

Once again Fishtank you are correct the problem in my office and it would appear other offices is the implementation of monster walks in my office the walks have between 600 and 750 calls resulting in having huge numbers of packets and having two huge bags attached to the trolley hence the reason deliveries are failling every day

i totally agree with this post, the right amount in a lwt is the correct way but in wolverhampton and nearly everywhere else they are going away from how the walks were planned to instead break the walks down into bundles or in most cases heavy pouches on shoulder for speed. labbloke thinks its ok to use bundles and pouches which could not be further from the agreement in which the number 1 most important thing above all else in a methods revision is weight off shoulder. :cuppa

Halffull, if you read my posts properly, I did say LWT's were used for some of the round, but were it was folly to do so the 5kg bags are fine.

By the way 5kg bags are the norm for flats.

labbke:TNT to be the likely buyers in my opinion and then an element of the Dutch housewives delivery model to be introduced.

A largish reduction in posties, some retained to sort and bundle up rounds and then deliver to local estates for self employed housewives etc to deliver,( no minimum wage, T and Cs, sick pay , holiday pay, pension etc)

Sounds impossible eh, but this is what TNT are now using when they have taken over other countries Mail services.

A great post from you here again shows you lack of knowledge as tnt have now been purchased by ups & might i say a very sexist post from you with a few negative comments towards women & how they could be involved in the business. oh and yes this is really the post of an optimist! give me a break!

Eh, just because UPS have bought out TNT, you think that prohibits them from purchasing us. Very strange. As for your comments about me being sexist, for your info the way they deliver mail is by the sytem called the Dutch housewives model. Try to keep up halffull

ok mr optimist,as the posts go on your obvious lack of experience in delivery really shows! so every round in Wolverhampton has flats on it?? and no you said lwt's were used when needed which is totally different as this gives the postman himself the choice which is not the agreement! (which i doubt very much you have a copy of). When you give the postman the choice he will always use the option which will get him home quicker(pouches),so the choice is taken away from us and thats why planners plan 30-45 minute loops which in my experience never has just a bundle which you would not realize as a mail centre worker :shhhhh . I will repeat for the 3rd time and hope you read carefully: 5kg bags are only used for flats & where it is not safe to use a lwt which has to be risk assest by a h&s rep! its not ok lets do the whole walk in 5kg bags as no time is built in dutybuilder for this and its not weight off shoulder. Also something else you wouldnt know is the difference in delivery spans of using pouches & lwt's so i will tell you: if postmen in Wolverhampton are carrying weight on shoulder the max span is 3 1/2 hours and for lwt's(delivery methods) its 4 1/2 hours. Keep trying labbloke as i love someone making a fool of themselves especially when they dont do the job  :whistle

if you knew anything you would know to think one company is going to buy the royal mail is a very silly thing to type :d'oh! ! Most likely it will be broke up by different companies, for instance eddie stobart might purchase the lorries side of the business then the drivers of the large vehicles would work for eddie stobart. the delivery side will most likely be franchised like in europe. Keep up labbloke, stay optimistic as always. :Applause :cuppa

no,labbloke said nobody was under 36 hours,39 is a proper fulltimer. i believe work & pensions class everyone over 36 fulltime which is wrong in this case as 39 is a fulltimer and 36 is not! when delivery supplements and bonuses are paid the 36 hours will get it pro-rata so how are they fulltime i ask??

Was just wondering what's a ballpark average time for delivering 1 bundle of mail plus 5 packets.
Does 15 minutes seem reasonable ?

how long is a piece of string, this question is impossible to answer as 5 houses with gates, huge drives and 10 letters could take longer than 30 houses with no drives or fences and 50 letters as the terrain is completely different as one is open plan and the other is not.

Lol Halffull, you have your opinion and I have mine, both on Wolverhampton and privatisation.

Obviously we are never going to convince each other on our respective views.

Good to know you have an interest in our beautiful City.
for lwt's(delivery methods) its 4 1/2 hours.
I would check this out Halfull in your copy of the agreement, you wouldnt want to mislead your members when your revision starts.

Ps if you require any more help, by all means PM me
