Now this Dutch model, how were they going to get rid of all the people on fulltime contracts??
were they planning to sack us all??
if so that was a bluff. i think even overlord Mandaleson would have been queasy about that.

I agree. but they wouldn't have been able to push 5hr30min deliveries by EA.

Word on the street from a good source (take it whatever way you want but it's kosha) is the planners in NE are under pressure to get deliver revisions in on time even if it means cutting corners.

Any ideas on how you cut a corner in RM? :cuppa

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Our office is also pushing to get it in on time, but there are rumours that two of the offices in our immediate area have already been put off until January - I don't know if that's true but I suspect it is. I'm not too sure that this is the right time to be going ahead - maybe it would be better to wait until after Xmas but the WSMs are supposed to be due in Feb or March, so it would be a revision followed by a second revision weeks later.

Although the planning is more or less complete there are a number of issues regarding indoor work, equipment, technical organisation, that would have to be in place in the next 4 weeks, some of which should be carried out by ROMEC - now we all know they aren't the speediest in reponse to requests for work so......

No union involvement, bypass the union by promising staff the world to agree to anything.
If that doesn't work, option B say nothing no involvement and just implament or.
Option C Install fear with a few choice suspensions.

The latest version is.."If we don't implement it now we will lose our WS slot and have to go to even later starts." :cuppa

Not heard that one but how about, "Don't worry about that we'll sort it out later"....................... it isn't actually specified how much later of course

dingo wrote:If every branch had stepped forward and showed unity we would have got an agreement quicker. Now I have been critical of CWU Hqs not going to ballot quicker enough but they conducted opinion polls in all areas in June , July and August and based on them we would have struggled to get a big yes vote. Branch`s started to do the work and then in Septemeber things were looking better and we got the ballot vote right. Talks however were well advanced and at one stage not far from agreement on an interim agreement then the Panorama Royal Mail document came out and the union issued notice on the first strike.

We had a meeting there after which every region reported the effects on the ground and the dispute was not as well supported as in 2007 and there were areas with more in work than out.

On November the 5th the union achieved the interim agreement which paved the way for negotations on the exective action and on achieving an agreement on Royal Mail`s business plan.

Now lets get one thing straight Royal Mail wanted to change the workplan which was based on their automation plan. This was never negotatiable. There are only two options with walk sequencing one is to sequencing all the mail at 0600 which would be cheaper for Royal Mail and would lead to everyone started later and a lot less full time jobs and the removal of all improved attendances ie the Dutch delivery model.
And all the effort to keep as many members as possible in the dark about what exactly was on the table, had nothing to do with that situation eh? :no no
It's too late now, to argue about how, and why it happened. But it is VITAL that HQ and the negotiators don't make the same f**k ups, they've made in the past. Particularly when RM are likley to offer short term financial incentives. Which as we've all seen, numerous times. Encourages a large number of people, to vote for almost anything put before them. :hmmmm

Perhaps if people actually knew what they were voting on, rather than a short summary from HQ, then we might have a chance of getting some results in the future. :hmmmm

I've given up caring what time we start or finish work.(Though I realise some colleagues will have childcare issues)
The workload has to be fair and achievable.
Everything else is just pish.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.
