No, it isn’t a collective hostility, just a handful of fans. I don’t mind the attention, though do find it creepy. The price of fame I guess.

Re: Delivery staff leaving royal mail.
The job has been going down hill for years, with job and finish gone and bigger walks their is seemingly no incentive, people are knackered and sickness must be at an all time high, at our place like most by the sounds of it the revision has ruined it, unachievable work loads and bullying from management has seen many experienced postman leave and new recruits just not interested and last about 2 weeks. But despite this we still have some idiots coming in early and running around on delivery not taking any breaks just to finish on time! It seems like they will never learn, I like most now just come in on my time take my break before going out and take my time on delivery try neighbors and card everyone else who’s not in, I also now leave 10-20 percent of walk in frame as I can’t get it done never come back early on cut off if still out on my time I now feel far more relaxed than ever! So just stop coming in early and take your break and use trolley and don’t knacker yourself for them it’s not worth it

We have people who start early unpaid, rush around, get back early, then stand around talking for 30-40 minutes until their finish time, and then wonder why their rounds get more added every revision. What I’ve learned in this job, is you really can’t help some people, and ultimately, people complain about RM and the CWU screwing up the job, but we are our own worst enemy.

Re: Delivery staff leaving royal mail.
We have joint leaving parties now for all the people that have left otherwise we’d be having 3 a week
There are more set to leave (depending how their job interviews go) and even more planning on leaving when the later finishes start
There are more people than I have ever known off on long term sick with mental health problems
We haven’t yet got any staff to replace any of the ones that have left although our manager says that they are recruiting
I can’t remember the last time our office was clear
Is this all part of the Royal Mail boards great business plan? If so it’s all going great
we’re all set to disappoint for yet another Christmas

I think the later finishing times will see the biggest exodus of all. Many are still in the job are probably still going due to the working times especially parents with young kids.Jen1 wrote: ↑27 Oct 2023, 20:53We have joint leaving parties now for all the people that have left otherwise we’d be having 3 a week

Managers in our office know that the duties are too big and are failing everyday. It's easier all round when you do the job properly

Same ! It’s bizarre but like you say they will never learn we have a pt guy come on 2 hours early every day just to finish 1 hour early! Even though you have to scan out so it’s another double standard from Royal MailLouBarlow wrote: ↑27 Oct 2023, 19:41We have people who start early unpaid, rush around, get back early, then stand around talking for 30-40 minutes until their finish time, and then wonder why their rounds get more added every revision. Yeah, that was a main reason why I voted NO. But it's ok, the business has been steadily recruiting a pool of labour on less money who are prepared to work those times. There are a lot that have left but they might retain a few of them until eventually they have the reserve workforce that they are looking for. In the next few years, everyman and his dog will have worked at Royal Mail at some time or another in our town.

Jesus your old job sounds awfulSmoothbackground wrote: ↑25 Oct 2023, 19:06Yes, comparatively speaking it is indeed great pay.You worked for 20 years in the “corporate world” in London and think Royal Mail is great pay?
Although I was on £50k pa (including an annual bonus) towards the end of my time in the legal sphere, every minute of my life was “bought”, weekends, evenings, days off, holidays and all, and I was reachable by phone or email pretty much 24/7. I’d wake up in the middle of the night and run down to do something I’d forgotten. Work took precedence above everything - kids, family, everything. The salary isn’t so much for the work you do - they are literally purchasing you as a human being and every waking and sleeping hour with it. It got much, much worse once I became based predominantly from home in 2012 and it took over my life completely. Sixteen-hour days were then the norm, sometimes for two weeks solid, including weekends, followed by a few easyish days in between “projects”. There were perks, and the job was fascinating in every respect, but it takes over your life completely.
Looked at in this way, my “corporate” job was paying me less than Minimum Wage. With Royal Mail, I earn a very decent hourly rate and get the work/life balance right. I’d go so far as to say it is the best pay for unskilled work available anywhere.

- Working in shite weather.
- Dealing with the general public.
- Walking/climbing stairs, non stop for 5+ hours.
- Being 'paired-up' with another postie.
- Piss poor pay rises.
- Being told what to do by a manager, who's being paid £45K to work 20 hours a week, and go home at 10.30am.
No f**king wonder OPG's are quitting that absolute shitshow of a job.
Senior management have clearly dropped the ball, or do they genuinely just not give a flying f*ck about anything other than short term shareholder profits and bonuses?

Re: Delivery staff leaving royal mail.
ABSOLUTE CRAP THAT IS ROYAL MAIL.
Having left 5 weeks ago after 18 years service, I have yet to receive any holiday pay due, I had 52 hours owing, minus the remainder for the rest of the year, payroll say I have had everything (except my P45 which they say they have sent but I have not received).
I find it amazing my holiday due, the said 52 hours is EXACTLY the same as what I owed til the end of the year.

Re: Delivery staff leaving royal mail.
i've just left this week after 17 years service through ill health.......backs gone and directly caused by the job
the last national revision in 2021 ultimately killed any goodwill, drive for performance and quality that RM once had and sadly have beaten it to a pulp lying face down in the gutter......
asset stripped and still is considering the drivell of "no early prep OT" lockdowns when stuff like this happens, it's penny pinching from those regional management that ultimately destroy any chance of clearing duties.
The national revision was rushed in ,without any thought to the USO or any health impacts upon the posties trying to deliver it - yes some offices only got "20 minutes increase" but that makes much more difference when the loops are designed to be longer and to keep walking non-stop for longer with either carrying weight or pushing/pulling it.
I'm sure everyone would agree that when the changeover happened to the now destoryed duties, that you felt it Alot more than normal, because of the longer loops.
It's not a case of it's a young persons game, its more how physically fit you Really are kinda job
