Sequenced mail does not come Sequenced

Just started my new ‘signed for’ duty. A couple of months back I clocked that the sequenced mail did not arrive sequenced and so raised it with Management and Union. I initially spoke to them separately and then when they were stood together.

I told them that it obviously needed sorting before me and my colleague began the duty but was told that the reason was because the duty holder at the time of the revision mustn’t have told ‘them’ the correct sequence - he says he did and whether he did or not - I’m telling them now so..!

As the time approached for me to start on the duty, I again raised my concerns and was fobbed off with the same answer. Raised it again around three weeks ago and the response had now changed to ‘well we’re having another revision soon so there’s no point’.

So in typical Royal Mail style the attitude seems to be ‘tough mate, that’s your problem’. Does anyone actually know how difficult a job it is to sort out? Like is it a couple of hours work or what? or is it simply that they just can’t be arsed?!

Not a single walk in our large delivery office gets its' mail sequenced. It's all over the frame across both walks and the number of mis-sorts is a joke! And we are in the building where the sequencing machines are!

Sorry to hear that, hopefully you get this sorted, usually though day after day, you become so familiarised when prepping , so maybe save a bit time, if you stay on the duty after a resign , hopefully the sequenced mail issue will be sorted out , its fairly typical these problems get fobbed off, poor management relations [can't be bothered ,to busy) , but I will just knock off around 11 30 12 00!

To qualify for walk sequencing you had to go through the P&L revision a decade ago. I would say if they're not keeping up their end of the bargain then it's back to 3 hour walks and pouch boxes!

time saving, it takes more time to run the "bundles" whilst still segging it to a walk but not in walk order, adds a few minutes to those prepping it but still built into our time! but which if you know the walk no biggy really, none came sequenced years back so god help if they go back to that

If it's wave 2, all wave 2 is walk sort only (it's the national workplan).

Most likely the data on Route Planner is well out of date. The sort plans for the machines (which batches items get sorted to and the order they go in when sequencing) are written based on the data in Route Planner. You need to get whoever in your office to make sure that the data in Route Planner has been updated for all walks.

A while back a new build of flats in town, kept having its mail go to stacker 20 (the reject/overflow stacker on a CSS) for weeks. Until the DO got the flats added to Route Planner, the mail for them went to manual

Many people 'cut' fittings to how they like them, but never tell anyone so the fitting is out of order. Some in our office do it deliberately so reserves struggle to cover the duty in time, making themselves look better.

seen it in our office when lapsing, some duties had regular long serving "officers" on a duty then jumped ship to another walk, now ignorant [meaning unknowing] mangers give you "a row" each when lapsing on unfamiliar ground the sequence makes no sense, dead walking and feeling like a twat, then trying to start your own duty at 11.30 with eight bags each, large, tracked, specials, collections, i agree some bastards sabotaged the revision ten years ago, when we had an almost ocd (but thorough) clerk who came round to all frame holders to see if any changes were needed to the frame for sequencing, he left ! eventually floaters learn how to "carve it up" to what is the easiest way of doing it. but not when they chuck "a row each" from a random frame at you on a busy day for lapsing, total bollocks. modernisation and efficiency p.s might need to go sick with a dead arm from wearing a childs black armband.

Route Manager Chump for your office needs to change the sequencing in Route Manager. Our Area Planner said it shouldnt take long..maybe hour max if its a trolley duty. Complications occur if changing bits from loops to other loops in shared van duties especially between driver & passenger loops. He didnt go into details cos he knew I wouldnt know what hes talking about. All I understand was he doesnt have time to fix it.

Some fittings in our office still haven't even got loops on the frame, still the same fittings from before the park and loop days.

We have that exact same issue with a senior guy who doesn’t like all but a select few to cover his round. So it’s all over the place - eg there’s a cul de sac # 1 to 21. The frame goes something ridiculous like # 9, 7, 1, 2, 20, 19, 10, 21.
