Question About Rehab

I've been off with back trouble since November. I had a telephone consultation today with OHS and she said that although I am not fit to resume my normal duty , ( bag opening) , in her opinion , I would be fit to do a modified duty. Sorting letters only , strictly no lifting , bending or pushing alts or yorkies. She also said that I must be able to sit or stand as required and also walk around regularly so that my back doesn't seize up. She has stipulated that I work for no longer than 4 hours which is indefinite , until my health improves. I am happy with this arrangement to go ahead , and am willing to go back to work soon and give it a try. She said that if this didn't work , they would have to change the terms of this arrangement to suit me. My question is , do RM have to stick to these recommendations ? I did point out to her that regularly pushing A-frames with stiff wheels , and standing for long periods have aggravated the problem. I asked her for a copy of the report she is sending to my manager but she told me to ask him for a copy. I will insist I get one.

You will have a return to work interview or your manager will speak to you about it, but make sure that you take a rep in with you so that you can state with a witness what the Occupational people said, that way there is more chance they will stick to it. I would also as you say insist on getting a copy of the report you are entitled to it, also can your doctor get a copy so that it is on your medical files.

It is set in stone until you have your next review.

Thanks TBT . I was told that a manager would contact me by phone first , once they receive the report from OHS. She told me that my manager should have the report late this afternoon , but , as I work night shift , it would be a night shift manager who should get it. Unless the manager I've seen during the day for the 3 Manager Interviews I've had will be dealing with it . He's ok , I get on quite well with him.

Managers really must abide by the EHS advice relevant to your situation.

If they dont and you have problems or injure yourself then RM could find themselves in very hot water.

Your DOM should send you a copy of the EHS report to you.

Yes that is correct, if a manager asks, says or try's to tell you to do anything other than agreed then stand your ground and just say no.

Also my question to any manager asking me to do more than the EHS has advised would be "why bother sending me to the EHS if you are not going to take any notice of the recommendations put forward by the EHS??"

I am going back on rehab in a weeks time after 4 months off and i wont be doing anything that i am not comfortable doing.

He he ! curly , I'm well known for standing my ground . A Shift manager we used to have told me once , in his own words , " don't take any crap from anyone" . He's the kind of guy who is very firm but fair and I have a hell of a lot of respect for the guy. Shame he's in Dundee now.

ask the scumbag manager for a copy of the report from ehs, but you should also get a rehab plan from him as well that says what you have to do week by week till the rehab ends he should ask you to sign it...

Thankyou TBT . First of all , I would like to apologise for any off topic remarks I have made. Please understand I was provoked into replying in such a manner and it is not my normal character to do so. If the abuse on this thread had happened in my workplace , I would not have hesitated to lodge a B&H complaint against the people who have insulted me. This thread started off as a genuine question regarding rehab on my return to work. I am severely disappointed that certain individuals thought it was acceptable to post insults. I was reluctant to come back on Royal Mail Chat after these insults , and was going to ask Postman to delete all of my posts and cancel my membership.
