Misplaced a special in the office today
Hello all,I don't post on here often, but today I signed for a special in the office,AFAIK I too it to my frame which is literally 10 feet away from the cage.
Bur when it came to tying up the duty ,I couldn't find my special anywhere.
I didn't take it out on delivery,so it must be in the office.
The point is,I couldn't find the special, the cage couldn't find the special.
I'm hoping it was misplaced somewhere in the office.
Best case scenario, someone found it in the office and handed it back into the cage, and it got delivered.
Worse case is its now missing ,but seeing as it didn't leave the office I can't see how it would stay missing.
However I failed it after signing it,and possibly lost the special.
I did report it to the managers before going out on delivery, and ill see the dom on monday first thing to explain the situation too.and it definitely wasn't with me on delivery.
It's my first time I've messed up in over 20 years of being a postie.
Can someone in the know tell me how much sxxt I'm actually in?

You're human.
You made a mistake.
It will turn up.
If not, you reported it straight away.
I wouldn't worry about it.

I wouldn't worry too much.
Listen, mistakes happen, we are all human. It sounds like you followed correct procedures, but just made a mistake somewhere along the line.
You can probably expect a "talking to" and coaching I would say. E.g always keep Specials seperate and NEVER put them in the frame in case you accidentadly post it etc.
What did your manager say when you reported it?

Cheers all, thanks for the replies, the manager sighed and wrote it down, this was 10 minutes before I left to go out on delivery.
I can only assume its still in the office and possibly failed.
I will make a point of seeing the domain Monday, then I'll keep my head down and wait to see if there's a report.
I do have a good rapport with the managers, and have kept my nose clean pretty much since I started over 20 years ago.
But tbh I've been sitting bricks,as I know specials are a nightmare if the s**t hits the fan.

You followed procedure by mentioning it straight away so training at worst. Just hope someone in the office hasn't nicked it. If so you can't have eyes in the back of your head and should be able to trust colleagues but we've previously had a few wronguns at our place

You will be ok. Things can happen, as a driver there’s lots to deal with sometimes. Try not to worry, it will blow over. They will probably ask how you can avoid this happening in future. I would also say, that I always take mine to the van straight away and log them so I know where and when to deliver them. They are a pain in the ass though.

I did think this might be the case, but I was on my frame all morning,I can only guess it was in the office and got delivered.Gary55 wrote: ↑10 Sep 2022, 21:28You followed procedure by mentioning it straight away so training at worst. I checked with the cage when I got back off delivery, and it wasn't in the cage.
I'll see what happens Monday.
Thanks for the replies.

yeah that's a good idea taking them straight to the van.SMS1969 wrote: ↑10 Sep 2022, 21:33You will be ok. Things can happen, as a driver there’s lots to deal with sometimes. Re: Misplaced a special in the office today
I really wouldn't worry, I lost one out on delivery and I had only been on the job a couple of years. I had put my bundle down on some stairs in an apartment block and the special was on the bottom. I delivered a parcel picked up the bundle and went on my merry way - unfortunately not looking back to see if I had dropped anything.
I remember the delivery address of the special and when I got there couldn't find the Special. I was so upset, fortunately I was on good terms with the recipient and they knew what it was and told me not to worry, I also phoned my DOM.
When I got back to work my DOM was great, he asked what the customer had said and then said I wasn't the first and certainly wouldn't be the last and that if the customer put in a complaint he would handle it.
I have found a couple of Specials in pouches several weeks after they have been 739'd and never understand how no one picked up on it.
The point is that you informed your manager as soon as you realised it was missing and it was lost inside the depot so should hopefully turn up anyway.

Unless it was a Saturday guaranteed item I don’t think it is classed as a failure until 1pm Monday?
