This is a joke, just seen this, what is Dave Ward doing? Does he think RM care about the queens death? If they did they would be giving us the day off to mourn. But our dippy union expect us to call of the strike and go back to work and make more money for the very people who they have been telling us are the worst bosses ever. Ward is so weak as our union leader, you just know he is going to sell us down the river when his deal with RM eventually gets negotiated. Anyway stuff what Dave Ward says, RM says you do not have to come in tomorrow as it is such short notice and you may have other plans, so if you want to have your own personnel strike you can do so without RM trying to do you for it.

The union were wrong in this instance, telling us to go back in to work.
Should have simply stood down the pickets and told members to turn the strike day into a day of mourning.

We still need to battle the predators running our working lives into the ground.

When the CWU calls us out again, I will go out.
The alternative would be to ignore the CWU, and what Thompson and his gang are doing to us, and make it appear that by breaking a strike, we support Royal Mail in what it wants to do to us.

And that would even be more absurd than the CWU's over-the-top decision made yesterday.

If you were on a picket line after the announcement that the Queen had died you would have witnessed a change in the public behaviour. We had so much support earlier but then had a number of public saying show some respect. It would be far worse tomorrow.

Those who argue we should have simply stood down picket lines are wrong for a number of reasons. A strike is only effective if we ensure one we make the public aware of our dispute and two we get a withdrawal of Labour. A silent strike does neither and we would be attacked in the media in a massive way potentially losing public support.

The other angle is the short notice of the decision. Well the official announcement of the Queens death was 18:36. We made the decision by 19:30 and had discussions with Royal Mail that given the short notice of the decision that individuals who could make it into work would not be taken down any formal procedures and would simply lose the days pay as if they were striking.

I understand fully that a number of individuals would have not arranged child care or may not be able to get into work tomorrow but talks are on going to try and get the opportunity to potentially have different options such as either annual leave or make up time which has happened previously when a strike has been called off at short notice.

Remember a situation like this has not happened in 70 years the UK will be in a state of mourning , we will need public support if we are going to win this dispute and especially if a potential take over by a European investment bank and you don’t win public support carrying on with strike action the day after the Head of State has died what ever your views on the monarch.

This dispute has not finished. We are still in the fight of our lives but we need public support to win and you will lose it by simply carrying on striking because it is to short notice or you have made plans.

Standing down picket lines may boost some peoples Egos but Royal Mail and the media with demonise us ahead of our next strike.

Sometimes unprecedented events happened and you have to make the right decision for the best outcome for the future instead of a knee jerk decision which says let’s ignore the Head of states Death and carry on with either a silent strike ( what is a point of that ? ) or carry on with the strike if nothing has happened.

Surely everyone can see the bigger picture and understand that the best thing to do to go on and win the dispute was to suspended todays action and to show a mark of respect at the death of the Queen as an head of state. Now Royal Mail must show some respect by stopping executive action.

I'll show my respect to The Queen and reluctantly go to work as the union has requested. I will also cancel my union subs as I refuse to be a pawn in the CWu's ever increasing political play fight. Their job is to represent and serve us, something The Queen did impeccably throughout her life. I will rejoin once Ward and Pullinger have left. To quote a phrase they often use, "They've lost the dressing room"

Firstly,it wasn’t Dave Ward’s decision it was the Postal Executive, secondly, no way is this a dippy union they are fighting back on our behalf and Dave Ward certainly isn’t weak I think a majority of members find him very inspiring and know he’s on our side.

I don’t understand how it is a mark of respect
They will probs cancel all sporting fix this weekend
But people expected to work at the same time
It’s a good job I never had a few last night to raise a glass to the queen
Which is more respectful than bailing out our corrupt company
A mark of respect is business and workplaces downing tools for the day not making money for the spivs

For the life of me, I cannot see how working today is showing any kind of respect on what should be a national day of mourning. But, that's me.

This insanity in trying to win over a right wing public, and a right wing media, who will never support us no matter what we do, is a road I would never go down myself, personally.

However, what's done is done. Work your paid hours, then go home.
Make that your daily routine from now on.

It seems that there are some posters on here, whose sole purpose in life is to be on strike. They dream of the very thought of it and live for the day they can stand on a picket line.
It doesn’t matter the reason, the cause, the provocation, they just want to be on strike.

The company could cave and accept every demand from the Union, and these people would still want to strike. With them, it’s not about the reasons, it’s only about them being on strike. The refusal to even consider the bigger picture is a certain giveaway, as is their misplaced feeling of superiority.
