60 next year, & 33 years service

Post by Postmangit »

No mortgage now, both kids graduated just wondering if I can make it mentally in this job for another year? Oh the thought of never doing another Xmas or delivering crap ever again, it’s rather tempting to go now, or do I sit tight ? 🤷‍♂️

Just go if you can afford it. I’m 55 next year with only 14 years service. I’m hoping to leave next year. Taking a previous jobs pension and try make the best of things. Good luck to yah!

Mind is a sense of thought not a cognitive thing just as emotions and thinking before you post is!

The job is certainly not going to get better.
Sundays, Annualised hours and later starts are beckoning
Royal Mail will become a type of Amazon workplace if the Executives get their way.
The workforce is demoralised and this includes local managers.
You are not alone.

33 years is a big chunk of life.
Why not reward yourself and retire NOW?
You have earned it.

I was 60 in April this year and I jacked it last year after just over 25 years service.....the best decision I have made in many years. The difference in my life has been phenomenal, I am much happier, contented and I didn't realise how much the now toxic regime was eating into to me until I was out of it.

Not only do I feel a completely different person now, family and friends also tell me so!

You won't regret it I am sure, just read the numerous posts from others who have left! I regularly chat with our postie who tells me how much worse things have got even since last year.

With 33 years in you'll have a reasonable pension, and with no mortgage and kids grown up you should be in an ideal position to just find a little part time job that suits YOU, (if you want to that is and like I did) and start enjoying yourself like I and others have. Good luck! :thumbup

Got to agree with the other comments I reached 62 with 38 years service and realised this firm doesn’t give a toss about you or how many years you have worked.
I quit and it was the best decision ever, this toxic firm is going down the sewer rapidly with super si at the rudder.
If money is not an issue go and enjoy yourself remember there are no pockets in a shroud.
GOOD LUCK 👋

Can I ask a personal question to the ones who have left & also answered my original message? We’re you financially ok to leave at the time you did, or was it a case of, bite the bullet & see regardless? Thanks

Hi.

I am going at the end of the financial year.

I hark back to a previous post here.

Retire ,if you can, whilst you have your health.

A neighbour of mine ex RM, is now shuffling around on pain killers. Lamenting why oh why he didn't retire earlier. He could afford it. But, tbh, he was scared to retire. A common feeling.

But when he wants his limbs to work now so he can enjoy his fishing, his little boat, he is severely limited. And depressed.

No point if you cannot walk.

I feel for him. And he has inspired me to retire. I am not too bad, but the toll mounts up.

Of course the caveat is whether we can afford it. And that is respected.

Not an easy decision granted...but I cascade what I see.

If you decide to retire, I wish you all the best.

Life is short.
