Does anyone know how the retirement process works. I've contacted pensions and they have sent me all the info I need. What I don't know is how to start the process with Royal Mail. I tried phoning HR but the automated system doesn't offer an option for retirement information. I've also tried the people app but not any options there either.

There is no process to follow, as there is no longer a set retirement age. You can work for as long as you want to.

When you're ready to go and organised your pension, just resign and go.

I think the question is who are them that you give notice to, how are remaining holidays sorted, who do you need to tell that you are leaving ?

Just write a letter to your COM saying you're leaving on x date, giving the appropriate amount of notice.

Holiday entitlement is on a pro rata basis. So if you get 30 days per year and you depart 6 months into the leave year, then you're entitlement up to that point is 15 days. If you've used more than that, then you'll owe them and vice versa.

There us no such thing as retirement anymore you just resign and give adequate notice.

Its my understanding in regards to partnership shares, you have to show you have retired from the business so you do not pay tax and national insurance when you cash in the shares

If you leave RM at age 60+ you're deemed to be a good/tax exempt leaver. The P&M booklet says:

How do you define ‘retirement’ for the purpose of tax exemption when leaving Royal Mail?

This is currently defined as ‘resignation aged 60 or over’. Please check with HR Services for the latest definition of retirement, if you are planning on retiring soon.
