Tax allowance for Uniform

Post by GlassDoor »

Hi

Im thinking of claiming my tax allowance for uniform washing. However there doesnt seem to be a role that matches postman on the HMRC website which i was surprised about.
If i select the last option for all other roles, its only £60 which seems quite low, i saw another post on here mention that they got tax relief on £120 double what its telling me.

Can anyone give any advice on how to proceed.

You might already be getting it. I do and have never had to claim.

Check your tax code breakdown before you claim as it is likely that you are already getting the cleaning allowance.

I've been getting it for years. Claimed in an old job and it's carried on ever since. Pretty sure I get £120 and at the time you could claim for 5 years backdated, don't think you can now

Yeah, mine was claimed for me, one of the benefits of PAYE is employers can engage some of that stuff for you when it is applicable.

I just rang my local tax office and they were really helpful. They will ask if their are laundry facilities at your workplace (whether you use them or not) and make the adjustment to your tax code there and then.
