Resigning after 15.5 years service and need to know about what im owed

Post by Ben19881223 »

Hi guys and girls
Ive resigned and am leaving in two weeks.
Ive still got three weeks leave to take and also buy a weeks leave to get the full 6 weeks.
How much do you think the company owe me back and also is this done automatically or do i have to fight for it?
Thanks in advance

You won't be entitled to 6 weeks leave as you're are leaving after around just 4 months of the holiday year, so you'll be entitled to 1/3rd of your holiday entitlement, 5 week?s, which is just over 8 days less the 2 weeks you appear to have already taken plus the week back you've bought. It doesn't look like you'll be owed a lot, if anything, TBH.

When I left they said I owed £4.72 due to exceeding the amount of annual leave accrued for the part year (it was a part hour) :Very Happy . It was shown on the payslip as w/o - I thought that meant "written off".

You'd have thought such a small amount would have been written off after 25 years service and a clean record......but no. I'd heard no more but some weeks later when they sold my remaining free shares still in trust they deducted the £4.72 from that :Very Happy

I rang to HR to query why the payslip said w/o then they took it out of the shares, I was told that the code w/o meant that as I had no other wages to come (before the shares sale), they would pursue the £4.72 by other means, but when the shares money landed on their mat they got their money and that then closed the issue.

I suppose if you're losing a million pounds a day every little helps :Very Happy

As said, you accrue leave as the year goes on. If you have over 15 years continuous service then you get 26 days. You'll be entitled to about 19/52 of the 26 days which is 9.5 days. To get the full six weeks leave you have to buy 4 days so you will have paid for 19/52 x 4 days which is 1.5 days. So a total of 11 days leave accrued. If you've had 15 days leave already then you may well owe them about 4 days leave.

Resigning after you have utilised all your leave would be a better idea.

Why? You'd just end up paying royal mail for the weeks you hadn't accrued. Honestly, the stuff people say on here....

Just out of interest, what time of year is best to leave? End of the tax/holiday year, when you’ve taken all your leave?

Asking for a friend etc.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.
