Another Satisfied Customer .......Not.

Post by clashcityrocker »

We run a mail order company and in the past used Royal Mail to fulfil all of our orders. We now put as much of our shipping through other companies as possible. It's not just us as a business actively avoiding Royal Mail it's thousands of other businesses just like ours. Now here are the real issues that are causing Royal Mail to fail.
1> Unreliable service. Delay after delay. We have items regularly taking over 2 weeks to arrive from posting to delivery causing us as a business a lot of money on refunds. It's not possible to run a business with that kind of poor service.

2> Surcharges. I don't see much take about those here, but look around the internet and you will find out there is a massive issue with Royal Mail falsely surcharging parcels, so much so that business have been shifting their parcels elsewhere to escape the automatic surcharges that are invalid.

3> The most expensive tracking in the industry. All stamps, letters, and parcels now have barcodes. Royal Mail charges a huge fee to let you view the tracking, though each item is tracked within the system. ALL other carriers have free tracking included. For example a collect+ 1kg parcel is 19p more than 2nd class large letter with generous size allowance in comparison and tracking included. It's also cheaper than a Royal Mail Parcel, which is untracked.

Simply put Royal Mail is not fit for business and far too expensive to be a realistic option for businesses to use in 2022. The only mail we send through Royal Mail is the USO items to silly locations and stuff <250g as when they lose/delay the items it's not a huge loss when refunding them.

IMO until Royal Mail fix the above they will continue to fail to compete in the parcel business.

Is that a copy and paste or a genuine comment from a forum member?

What.....do you think this forum is?????
I thought it was a forum for discussing all things Royal Mail.
When I found this post in a different forum I thought it was interesting so I cut and pasted it here.
We are supposed to be a parcel company that delivers letters. It appears we aren't doing anything very well.
And in answer to another post, given the piles of failed D2D in our DO I don't think we are even managing to deliver the pizza leaflets either.

What do you think this forum is?

If they are operating overseas (including NI) then 1 and 2 will be due to Brexit. Even with the current delays, nothing is routinely taking 2 weeks or being "falsely surcharged".

I'm not even sure 3 is true either.

You say "another forum", I'd be interested to know where. Because this just sounds like some rightwing / Tory wingnut making sh!t up in response to the strike news.

All well and good but Rm don't door step like Amazon, EVRI and Yodel do on a daily basis on the routes on which I deliver. It's clearly a lie that RM track every item as the only items fully tracked are, unsurprisingly, Tracked items, other items are only usually tracked at the point of delivery, if the OPG scans the barcode.

I don't know what part of the country you're posting to but even 2nd class items do not regularly take 2+ weeks to go through the system & arrive at their destination regardless of how far apart they are unless there are external factors. In this case, at a wild guess, I'd say it's insufficient postage paid given that the 2nd complaint is about surcharges.

Not every item with a barcode is tracked through the system, the only items that are truly tracked at each point along their route are, unsurprisingly 24/48 hour Tracked items & Special Deliveries. Recorded Signed For are only really to tell you once they've been delivered & the same with 1st/2nd class items with 2D barcodes.

The fact that they use us to deliver to the expensive places that the other couriers won't touch. shows why we have to spread the costs across the board, its not our fault, the USO means we can't compete fairly with the others, but if it went there would be a lot more unhappy people out in the sticks.

When you get questioned out on the street about our quality of service by a customer, do you make it all sound sweet or tell them the truth that mail is only going out every other day & we only concentrate on tracked?

I tell everyone the truth about how things really are.
Royal Mail
failing the workforce, failing the public and deliberately failing mail on a daily basis for too many years.
